Well, it will totally change your life - but hopefully for the better. The Sappers learn many life-skills and if you are made of the right stuff, you can easily rise to the top and who knows, maybe even end up as an NCO or even Warrant Officer.
Yes you will probably loose touch with some of your old mates but you will make many more good and loyal friends in the Army. It is a tough life and yes there may well be some danger - but you will have the chance to do loads of sports and hobbies - mountaineering, ocean sailing, skiing - the world is your oyster - go for it and good luck.
ps the pay is quite good now and of course you will get a pension after 22 years.

Effect your life?????
It will become your life!!!
Easier to keep in touch with your family but tend to lose your old friends. You make new friends people who are go getters and want the same as you. Some of your old friends will seem complete idiots the more experienced you become and you will find yourself thinking thank god i didnt stay here.
A Sapper - Good Luck you will need it.

You will only lose touch with them if you choose to. You can still write, phone, visit when you get time off. Obviously there needs to be more planning involved cos you wont be on the doorstep 24 hours a day like now, but if you make the effort you can keep your friends. You will also make a new bunch of friends out of the people youre working with, so you arent going to be too lonely even when you are away from home

He can take what he wants with him, but may not be allowed to use or wear them in the first 4 or 6 weeks. He will be sharing a room with about 10 other guys and the reason for not using or wearing personal kit is so the guys will all bond together. Let the apron strings go....and good luck to your son.

The RE is an excellent choice you will still be able to keep in contact with your friends and family how ever you might find that some of your friends drift away as you develop a new circle of mates it's not all stamping feet and room inspections ,well after basic training that is

Good on yer Lad.
I went from ranker to command.
It will change your life out of all recognition.
I didn't lose touch with my family, only some of the dead beats I hung around with.

You may be ordered to kill someone.
Our Lord Jesus Christ has set a clear standard for His followers: "But I say unto you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you" (Luke 6:27-28). He also taught that we are to live by "every word of God"- to guide our lives by every word of the Holy Bible.
Christians who live in nations where military service is compulsory must make a decision that can carry severe consequences: by obeying their Saviour, they may be risking prison (or worse) for refusing to serve in the military. Christ gave an important principle when He explained that "where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matthew 6:21). Those who have their hearts set on The Kingdom Of God will make that Kingdom their priority, and will NOT jeapardize their place in that Kingdom by fighting and killing others in the wars of men.
Please remember that satan has an awful lot of power in this world and it will remain this way until Jesus Christ returns.
