This is my cut and paste answer. The reason for that is because a tech info is a tech info, you can't beat it (sources below).

PS3 will win the console war, no doubt. Xbox 360 and Wii are so weak from technological point of view, that in couple of years they won't be capable of dealing with serious graphics. GTA IV, for instance, isn't even announced for Wii - this toy won't be able to cope with the game's requirements. Xbox 360 is getting GTA IV, however, the game is going to be released on several DVDs - Xbox 360 owners will have to interrupt gaming process and switch discs (Rockstar complained about this issue). Only PS3 will have it on single BD-DVD.

Let's compare PS3 and XBOX 360:

1). A third of XBOX 360 (33%) are malfunctioning right from the start. PS3 return rate is only around 0.2%. Despite some people say, that new 360 has no breakdown issues - just visit Xbox section of Yahoo answers and see for yourself an amount of complaints.
2). PS3 has 8 (7+1) kernels in Cell processor, Xbox 360 -only 3.

11). Besides all of this, I've seen disassembled Xbox 360 - regular PC architecture - Billy Gates is an uninventive nerd (as usual).
When I saw disassembled PS3 - it was a surprise - smart architecture, good cooling (don't buy external PS3 coolers - they make everything worse - original system is good), etc.

13). PS3 online is free, Xbox 360 - you have to pay.
14). There were reports, that 360 scratches discs. No reports on that in PS3.
15). The funniest thing, that right now there are no games for PS3, that show full potential of the console. Biggest games weigh only 25 GB (Xbox 360 will need more than 3 discs even for those).
16). On PS3 you can install other OS, such as Linux Yellow Dog, Ubuntu and others. Sony officially lets you do it. There is no such thing in 360.
17). PS3 HDD can be replaced easily with any 2.5" SATA 5400 RPM HDD (used in laptops). 250 GB will cost you around 170$. In 360 you have to buy exclusive HDD, where 20GB will cost you 100$.
18).Sony expects PS3 to stay on the market for, at least, 7-10 years. Also Sony reduces price now. There is a cheaper 40GB version of PS3.
19).Sony constantly upgrades PS3 software (free updates for OS) - you get new functions and improvements.

This is how I see it:

The Xbox 360 has more games now but it doesn't necessarily mean that they are better. Xbox 360 games are just so hyped and that's why it seems like they might be better and so many Xbox 360 games rely heavily on online gameplay and if it wasn't for the online gameplay some Xbox 360 exclusives wouldn't really be anything.

And of course, the PS3 is the better console. The PS3 will have the better and more exclusive games in 2008 though. So far the PS3's exclusive games have been more original because almost every PS3 exclusive has been a brand new franchise. In the long run Sony will win the console war again.

I disagree. Both consoles are capable of spitting out 1080p graphics and have the processing power to handle any online play. One could argue that cell processors are more powerful than the x86 based processors, but does it show through in the games?

I don't see a large enough difference between the consoles to say one is better than the other. The PS3 has a lower failure rate, but costs more and the 40GB does not include backwards compatibility.

I think the failure rate and the price difference balance eachother out making the current game library the deciding factor. Xbox definately has better games at the moment, but I think it will get closer in the next year as more exclusive titles come out for the PS3. So for now, I say the Xbox wins, but ask me again in a year :)

Xbox has more games, and many fun ones, but I like the graphics of ps3 better, and as an overall media center, plus the fact that many exclusives are coming out for it makes it the winner.

yup I am with you ps3 has better graphics and better processors as well, just need to get up to speed on the games.

I own a 360 and am pretty happy with it. (got it cheap it fell of the back of a truck according to the guy I bought it from :P)

I AGREE WHOLE HEARTEDLY FOR NOW!!!! BUT PS3'S CELL PROCESSOR WILL KICK 360'S **** IN THE nERE FUTURE GUARANTEED . I OWN EVERY GAME SYSTEM EVER MADE SINCE ATARI AND IS AMAZING TO SEE HOW THE GAME SYSTEMS HAVE EVOLVED OVER THE PAST YEARS
