Theoretically, they could get into an ear, just like any insect that is small enough to crawl into the ear. Many types of insects can accidentally end up in one's ear, but its not very common, and there aren't any insects that use human ears as part of their life cycle (except for ear mites which aren't actually insects). There are many insects besides earwigs that are far more likely to end up in someone's ear because they occupy environments where people sleep. Earwigs live in moist organic matter, like rotting wood, decaying leaves, and in the home, under paper and cardboard that is deteriorating, so they aren't very likely to crawl on you unless you are sleeping on the floor in the basement, or sleeping outside in a pile of wood chips.

My little sister had an ear infection when she was a kid, and turned out that a ladybug got in her ear and died - the infection was caused by the dead bug.
