My mother just read where scientists have determined that the human brain is hard-wired to believe in GOD. Does that mean Atheists are brain-dead? Or will they reject science also now?

Reader's Digest Feb. 2002. Look it up. Duh. And if we don't pay attention and research what we read, then science is a crock. And just a handy tool for atheists to argue with? I thought science was some of your only beliefs!?

LOL! I find your answers mostly funny. Added with the fact that when you have to stoop to insulting people by calling them names you have already shown that you don't have a logical answer.

I agree. God would not ask us for our belief if he didn't give us the capacity to believe.

Just plain logic.

Link please, sorry I am not going to take Readers Digest seriously. They are too likely to have digested wrong as is anybody who thinks science is crock. I want to see the original article, and I am not interested enough to search for it.
While twin studies indicate that there is a genetic component to spirituality I am very sure that it is not hardwired for a specific god. In addition you neglect variability, one requirement of evolution.
Given the great flexibility of the brain, no complex behavior is hardwired. The only thing hardwired are reflexes.

If you think science is crock, not my problem, get off that evil computer now. Best wishes for your future survival without science.

I don't know if that is true but how does being hard-wired equate into brain-dead? We are hard-wired to use only a certain percent of our brain. Does that mean that Einstein was brain-dead?

The brain is capable of making new connections and routes. Just look at the brains of a person who is right handed compared to left.

Some people are hard wired to commit crime. There's a family in Ireland that posses es a "criminal" gene. That doesn't make it any more right or wrong. In the case of religion,it was probably due to the advantage it gave to groups coping with life's questions and problems. It doesn't mean anything to me in terms of the way i feel about science or gods. The question is why should i care?

You read the article wrong. The "God module" in the brain reacts to prayer, meditation, seeing a beautiful painting, gaining an insightful truth about the universe, etc...

When this region is stimulated, theists often sense the presence of God, while atheists don't. If our brains really are hard-wired differently, it kinda throws the free will argument out.

You do realize that this fact suggests that the prevalence of belief in God is simply the result of the physical structure of the brain, right?

The article is basically saying that belief in God is simply a byproduct of of our evolution.

When part of your mind wants you to beat the hell out of someone, do you do it, or do you control your impulses? Everything that is still hard-wired in the brain is not necessarily beneficial, and it certainly doesn't mean that God exists.

No, even if humans are hard wired to believe in god, it does mean atheists are brain-dead. They can think! They have improved circuitry to bypass this obsolete hard wire.

Hmm, I'll have to ask my mother if she read the same thing.

Please take a careful look at your question. You started the insults.

What scientist said that? Are you sure they aren't wired to believe in 'God'? I would rather go to Hell than worship a god like that! People have died in that name for to long!!!

No it means that theists are hard wired to follow and believe someone knows better than they do. Not sure I would brag about that.

Think about it. Okay forget that. Try to think about it. The majority with a genetic predisposition for believing that there is someone who knows better than they do and that are willing to follow someone who knows better.

And a minority who don't have this predisposition. Who don't believe there is someone who knows better and don't want to follow.

Sound like the makings of a village? Wow, how could we have gotten that way naturally?

Lets change the makeup of the village and see...

All followers and no, what shall we call them,,, non-followers. Sounds like a doomed village with no one for them to follow.

All non-followers.
Sounds like a doomed village also with no one to dig ditches and plant corn. Everyone wants to lea... er non-follow.

But lots of followers and a few lead..er...non-followers. Healthy village passing on it's respective genes and predispositions.
