I took him to the vet yesterday to have a scab checked out. I also told the vet that he sneezes once in awhile. It turned out he had a respiratory infection, so the doctor put him on Clavamox twice a day. He didnt tell me to mix the medication with water.. so just by following the doctors directions of twice a day, I was giving that to him. Today, my kitten puked a little. Hes not had a problem with vomiting before. Then I noticed I was supposed to mix his meds with water. Is it ok that he took 3 doses without being mixed with water or should I be concerned?

Any antibiotic can cause intestinal distress. You definitely should be calling your vet! What I am most concerned about is what amount you are actually giving? If you are giving a dry amount equal to the mixed with water amount you are overdosing your kitten. The vet needs to know this immediately. I have NEVER heard of a clinic EVER sending home a client with UNMIXED antibiotics - it must have been in error.

Please call your vet now.

how in the world did you get any of the powder down your cat ? Yes it needed to be mixed with water. Your cat will be fine but the dosing will be off now if you mix it with water now. I would call your vet to find out if you need a new bottle or if you should mix a smaller amount of water in what powder you have left.

Clavamox is notorious for causing stomach upset, so I'd call your vet and ask about giving pepcid ac to help ease the nausea. If that doesn't work you'll quickly need to change antibiotics, otherwise your cat will stop eating and that leads to a whole new set of problems.

Also ask your vet about l-lysine

And when giving pills, please follow with some water...imagine swallowing a pill dry, not very nice!

My cat puked on Clavamox as well and we had to switch medications. Just as humans react differently to medications, animals can, too. Usually pet medications come pre-mixed or are in pill form so I think this is just a case of your kitty being sensitive to the medication. Good Luck!

When I get Clavamox from my vet, it's already been mixed for me! If the bottle doesn't have dry powder in it (already liquid), then it's already been mixed! The directions on the bottle are for mixing powder w/sterile water, before giving to the pet, and most vets do that before giving it to you! If you're confused/concerned, CALL YOUR VET, and explain! They'll be able to tell you if they mixed it before giving it to you! The vomiting could be unrelated to the Clavamox.....just to the infection, maybe. CALL AND ASK!! Good luck.......................

Definitely check with the vet first, in order to make sure it's not an allergy and to make sure of the instructions.

We gave our kitty Clavamox recently (Pre-mixed and in liquid form) and the vet had suggested mixing the med with a bit of wet food to avoid the stomach upset. He managed to keep it down.

Good luck to you.
