me and my friend are both vegetarians and i just started working out at the gym and he keeps stressing to me that i need to take protein shakes to bulk up cause we don't get that much compared to ppl who eat meat...

true, you do need protein in your body to get bulkier. You could try things like creatine or soemthing like x-plode, but you need to make protein shakes along with it.

Check out Frances Moore Lappes "Diet for a Small Planet". While meat is the most concentrated source of protein, there are plenty of other things you can eat (such as beans with rice) that will give you protein

yeah, that's true, red meat is the greatest source of protein, which is a building block for muscles. If you don't eat meat you should probably be getting help with your protein intake anyhow.

Protien comes in lots of forms other than meat. Eggs are high sources of protien, and there are many different ways to cook them. Scramble, bake with a little cheese, have an omelet, and poach to name a few. How about nuts? Peanuts, almonds, cashews, just a few of any of these will fill you up and provide you with protien.
