Good question....you can get permission to do ANYTHING in law enforcement when it involves searches.

However, certain types of searches would require a medical professional to conduct if necessary such as when someone were to ingest illegal drugs or place contraband so far up their keester that only a doctor would be qualified to remove the item(s).

Something that far inside the body...I may get a search warrant to be on the safe side should the "squat and cough" fail to work!

If your a male and you look like you might be pregnant, they'll send a cop with a dentists degree. He'll search for cavities because if you get gingivitis or some kind of deep infection, it can spread to the baby through your bloodstream.

Mostly on school grounds. Places like
U.C. Berkley, because thats where they're expecting to first see men that are expecting.
Also, thats where they'll be most likely to have gum and mouth infections and disease. On account of the fact that they suck on alot of dangerous things !

If your a female and they already know your pregnant, but then the very next day you look like your not pregnant anymore.
Cavity search because they want to know where the baby went.
If its really not there anymore, they need to decide if it's going to be a missing persons case!

In which case they hand it over to Dale Bozzio to do whatever she wants with it. (probably sign it then sell it at auction) That's how she's gotten so many "cavity search" cases accumulated over the years.

The officer K.F.C. who posted up above is absolutely correct, I couldn't agree more.
If an aprehended suspect incarcerated defendant convict, shady character kinda guy is "squating"(probably asian) and "coughing" that's a very dangerous, 1 adam 12, code red,219 in progress,5150, 4:20, defcon 1 type of, use lethal force, situation. Because the problem is that the guy "squating"(thats cuz he's asian) is certainly coughing because he's got S.A.R.S. or avian bird flu,
I suspect the good officer knows alot about all that bird kind of stuff because he's Officer K.F.C.
"good job" Mister.

Police can-not legally do a Cavity search unless you have been arrested and even then it it may not be legal , however they have complete control over the detainee they may decide to do cavity search on the grounds that they can do what ever they dam well please once they have a person in custody

Our detention center will request them only if there is a suspicion of drugs or other contraband. Most often, we will send them out to the local hospital and have it taken care of there. The sheriff doesn't want any liability issues by having deputies perform the search.

It mainly applies to jails and prisons. If someone gets transported to the local jail, they may give a cavity search if they feel that person is extremely dangerous.

I imagine if they have reason to believe you have something in one of the cavities of your person, yes, they can.... Not much fun.

probable cause - meaning they have a witness or they themselves saw you hide something on your person.

If they don't have probable cause, they must have a warrant.

or if they are placing you under arrest, before you go into the jail, they have the right to conduct a cavity search, for their safety.

Yes...takes a while tho. They'll do one if they suspect that you're smuggling drugs. They'll also do one if you're about to be jailed. Enjoy :P
