I wonder how many more people would be Christian if they didn't bind the NT with the OT.

They'd like to, since it ties them to Judaism and Islam, but they'd have a hard time explaining why.

As a Jew, I find the term old testement somewhat insulting. It's like the New Year's baby tossing out the old man.
There is the Torah, writings and prophets. That's it. It's just another part of the propaganda, and if they don't stop it I'm going to name a teddy bear after the person they worship.
Shalom,
Gershon

I don't think its partuclarly relevant. Christians have only been touting the "Bible only" thing for a few decades, and even now that is only dogma among some 10% of modern Christians. The Old Testament wasn't included in any of the early lists of Christian books. It was accepted by one Church (in Carthage) in the 4th century, was accepted again by the Church in Trullo in the 7th century; but it wasn't officially adopted as Christian Scripture until the Council of Trent.

NO, I don't want to kill the Old Testament..Both go together..it's like a set. You can appreciate the New Testament by reading the Old Testament..You can't understand Revelation if you don't understand Daniel.

The 10 Commandments are OT. Christians just pick and choose what parts of the OT they like.

the old testament is a mirror that allows us to see ourselves in the lives of ot characters and helps us learn vicariously from their lives. it sheds so much light on who God is and the wonders he has made and the salvation he has wrought. it shares so much comfort to those in persecution or trouble [see psalms especially]. it reveals through repeatedly fulfilled prophecy why the bible is unique among holy books—it alone is able to demonstrate that it is what it claims to be: the inspired word of God. it reveals volumes about Christ in page after page of its writings. it contains so much wisdom that goes beyond what is alluded to or quoted in the NT

The only problem is that Jesus talks about the OT as though it were true...

No, but I do want people to know what they are talking about when they quote it. It's not that hard to look up something online.
BTW, Jeff, it's spelled "Christian". Did you do that on purpose? :)

mmmmmm isn't the Old testament prophesy of the coming of Jesus Christ? And isn't the New testament prophesy fulfilled? I think they go together.
