how do i remove pictures from picasa without deleting them?

Yes, right click to hide, but ALSO you may want to change the menu item:

View -> Hidden Pictures.

Put a check mark next to it and your images will still show in Picasa, but they will be smaller and washed out. If you uncheck this option, which is the default setting, the photos do not show at all.

Once a hidden photo is visible, you can right click again and choose unhide.

Right click on the picture. Choose "Hide" from the menu. The photo will be ignored by Picassa but remain in the original file.
