They are thankful for the tootsie rolls that the cat is making for them. Well other than shooting them with a water gun when they do it, Let it go and when your significant other irritates you, have the dog kiss their face.

my dog does the same thing..i thought maybe he was just heading for the cats food dishes (he loves the wet food..eww) and stopped to investigate the litterbox treasures but we moved the food away from it and he still goes for the poo...we were told training (spraying him with water or putting him in time out) when he goes for it is the only way to stop him so maybe try that..if that doesnt work try surrounding the litterbox with something he wouldnt like like citrus but just make sure ur cat will still go in when needed lol

One theory is they want to smell like that animal. I think they just like it. Move the cat box out of their way. Also it is very dangerous for them to eat the clumping cat litter. It solidifies to a cement and can cause impaction.

Gross, I know, but yeah, some think of the little turds as being delacies.....
I solved the problem by getting one of those litter boxes with a hood and turned the opening towards a corner.

Cats digestion is very fast, so when it "comes out" it is still like a "food form" to dogs. I know. Gross huh? My dogs did it until I moved the litterbox down cellar- they won't go down there.

If you do a search on the net, you can find a list of 20 possible reasons for this. It's everything from being tasty to being interesting. Anytime my dog did it, I threw her out, and she doesn't do it anymore.
