I'm going to make a dessert and it says to sift together the flour and baking soda, but I don't have a sifter.

Strainer will work, like a pasta drainer. Shake it through anything you have with a lot of little holes. Even a wicker basket or straw hat will work in an emergency. If anything else pour some in a sack and shake the crap out of it to fluff it with air basically.

if you have a wire strainer (not the spaghetti kind) or something that will allow the flour and baking soda to go through holes. That is what sifting is.

You can use a sieve, if you have one. Sifting adds a little air to the ingredients, removes any possible lumps and blends the ingredients better.

buy a sifter at the store its like a small strainer you just put both things in and shake them out.
