Some of the ways he keeps people from reading God's word is by reminding them that Eastenders, Coronation Street, Home and Away is on or will be on in some minutes. Another is that helies to them that they wont understand the word and its just some story being told. he also tells them they are too tired to read they better go to bed or chat with their friends on the phone. he makes sure that they think about paying bills and so are downcast not wanting to do anything.
Excuses. Hmmm a lot. he tells them church is too boring. He scares them that they have to pay their tithes and offering. he keeps them from going to church by telling them the service will be very long today. he reminds them about the someone in church that has offended them. he tells them its Monday the next day so they might as well stay at home, get more rest and prepare for the working week. he reminds them that they do not have new clothes, shoes to wear and everybody is always wearing something new. he tells them that its very very cold outside so stay under the duvet.

There are all sorts of excuses but to slinky. Not all churches are snobby, and the bible tells us to fellowship with like kind. I get so much from church, aside from praying, and reading the bible an annointed preacher can really give important messages. Also the church should do so many things to help the less fortunate. I am very involved in my church, I love my church, and although some personalities may clash we are there for the same reason to have a closer walk with God and to serve

Jesus said at Matthew 24:37-39 that people would be so absorbed in the everyday cares of life that they would take no note of spiritual things the same way people were before the flood of Noah's day. Not everyone who lost their lives back then was evil. Just preoccupied with everyday life. The same is true today. Our forefathers worked from dusk til dawn and had few if any of the labor saving devices people take for granted today. Despite this it seems we have much less time to devote to spiritual matters, or we are too tired or too busy.

Another tactic that I have noticed mentioned in response to this question is to make people believe that the Bible has been changed so much that it is no longer the word of God. Satan continues to propagate this falsehood to draw peoples attention away from God's word.

TV, mystery novels, soft beds, telephones, Internet, not now, I'll do it later, sometimes he suggests the word is boring or "You've read this part so many times, why read it again?"

church excuses: it is good to spend time with the family, ooh its so cold and rainy outside, I have a headache...I think its getting worse!

These are the things I've heard whispered in my ear to attempt to keep me away from the Word and fellowship with other believers. satan is rather predictable. Sometimes he wins, sometimes he loses.

Good question :)
Procrastination,
Getting too busy,
Wasting time on Yahoo Answers, etc.
for the latter,
"churches are so exclusive and snobby"
"you don't need to be in touch with other Christians; you can have a fulfilling relationship with God all alone"

1. You don't have enough time.
2. You're too tired.
3. You've got other things to do.
4. You're sick, and don't fell well.
5. You don't really need to read the Bible.
6. You can always do it later.
7. You don't have enough gas in your car.
8. You don't have any money to tithe, what will people think??
9. You don't have any clean clothes, or the clothes you have aren't 'good enough' to wear to church.
10. "I just don't feel like it!"
11. "Churches are full of hypocrites!"
12. "I can tune into church on T.V. at home!"

Don't blame the poor Devil! I read it because I am interested to know the kind of crap that Christians refuse to read in the Bible... and I post what I suspect is a "thorn in the flesh" for the Christian to accept... Christians still refuse to accept what is written in the Bible....

Jeremiah 6:13 (NIV) "From the least to the greatest, ALL are greedy for gain; prophets and priests alike, ALL practice deceit."

By making life more complicated, making you think you have a good enough reason to not to go to Church.

If you start out your day, even if you have to get up 30 minutes before the normal time, start your day with a positive note from the word of God.

Good Americans watch football on Sunday.

IF the church were smart, they would keep as many educated folks from reading the bible as possible and let them believe the crap they were taught as children without investigating it..
