This is called contact dermatitis. You may just happen to have skin that is sensitive to abrasion, soap, or water, or some combination of them. You can pinpoint the cause by trying each of these separately. Allow plenty of time in between so effects of the previous bath are gone before taking the next one. First, try a shower or bath with lukewarm water, no scrubbing or soap, and drip dry as much as possible, then pat yourself dry with a towel.. You can repeat this test with hot water and cold water to see if there is any difference. Next, take a shower or bath at your normal temperature, using no soap, and towel dry while rubbing a little more than normal with the towel. Repeat while scrubbing with the sponge, but no soap. Then finally, so a normal bath or shower with soap, but avoid rubbing with the towel.
If you are using a natural sponge, there's a good chance that could be the culprit - they contain mineral crystals that are extremely abrasive.

There could be many things causing it. If you are on municipal water, there is a good chance it is treated with chlorine or chloramines. This causes skin problems in lots of people. The only way to remove the chlorine is to run the water through some sort of carbon filter. These can be installed where the water enters your house, so all your water is treated. The other thing to consider is the personal care products you use. Many of these products contain formaldehyde, a toxic chemical that can cause a variety of problems, including skin problems. I am sending a link to an article about the problems of formaldehyde in personal care products. It could also be the enzymes in the detergent you use to wash your towels. This is probably not the case, because if it were your detergent, all of your clothes would bother you. I am also sending a link to some soaps and bath stuff you can use that doesn't have lots of those harsh chemicals that can irritate your skin.

You can find the cause of your problem by trying to eliminate elements of your bath one at time. You can first try bathing in hot water since maybe the itchiness is caused by the cold water that you've been using. Hot water may even lessen the itchy feeling you get after scrubbing. Maybe the itchiness is also caused by the soap that you are using. Try to use other things instead like bath salts for example. Bath salts and hot water can do a lot of good things to the skin.

First, you are likely bathing too often, this robs your skin of moisture every time you bathe. Switch to showers, and no more than three times a week. Use a mild soap, like Dove, not the antibacterial or deodorant soaps as they too rob your skin of moisture. And apply a good apre bath oil, like Nivea after each shower.
