you should definitely try to rest. your body needs a lot of it in order to heal. if you've had this cold for more than a month, i suggest you see a doctor. the common cold shouldn't last more than 1-2 weeks.

Cardiovascular or aeobic activity is supposed to speed the healing of respiratory illnesses due to an increase in circulation and lung function. If you are too ill to partake, do some regular deep breathing exercises to expand the lungs and flush out the toxins. If you return to the gym be mindful to wash your hands and carry a towel for sneezes and coughs so as not to share your germs. Fatigue hangover (that listless feeling you get after a long illness) is difficult to overcome and should be tackled in stages. When mounting a "comeback" to fitness take it slow but exercise consistently to return to your good health.

the most important thing is for you to listen to your body. for some people, a good run is just what they need to bust through their cold. exercise is good for your immune system and improves circulation (which makes it easier for immune cells to get to your tissues and heal you). also it would be really, really difficult for you to actually do damage to yourself by exercising when you have a cold (someone said you could damage your heart... that's a little extreme). if you feel like exercising, go for it! if you're having muscle aches, though, you might want to scale your workout back a little bit. the last thing you want to do is be sore on top of your muscle aches and cold.
it sounds like you are looking for permission to go to the gym. if you feel like you can handle it, go! be careful not to spread too many germs: wash your hands and be sure to clean your machines after you use them. if you give it a shot and it makes you worse, well, at least you tried. if you continue to have persistent cold/cough symptoms, you should see a doctor, because it could be something worse than a cold.

I would rest some, get well, drink plenty of fluids, and then I would slowly get back to the gym and work out but not to hard until I was fully well

Give into it man, rest up and within a few days, you'll be down that gym like there's no tomorrow.

as long as you are sick you need to take vitamins and drink orange juice, watch what you eat and take short walks and each day you will start feeling better then start going to the gym and take it light and you will lead to where you were before you got sick..

Rest, dear. Don't be spreading your germs at the gym! That roommate already passed on to you this bug, why would you want others to "enjoy"it?
BE CONSIDERATE!

Rest is best. You can damage your heart if you overdo the exercise whilst ill.

I think you should stay home, drink lots of fluids and sleep a lot, because your body doesn't feel well and it's probably weak.
