Joining the Marines as a woman is a very honorable endeaver but your very wrong when you say you have a choice as the whether or not you want to go to war or not. The fact is that you may very well be called to go to the war. Women Marines, although not aloud in combat arms, often do find themselves fighting side by side with the infantry and other units. "Every Marine, a rifleman first" is the common knowledge.

Good luck in what ever you decide.

You are mis-informed about Marines (women OR men) having the "choice to fight in the war or not". If you join the Marines, wear the uniform, earn the rank, and receive the pay, you must be willing to go to war and lay down your life if ordered to do so. There is no getting around that. It is part of the bargain.

You can try to get specialized training in a non-combat MOS such as Marine Band or nursing or water treatment, but even those soldiers are occasionally sent into harm's way. The bottom line is: ALL American soldiers are trained and ready to fight for their country.

ADDED LATER: "Criikey" is wrong about female marines not being allowed in combat. Way wrong!! Here are some links to prove that they are indeed, sent into combat:

Females are not allowed to be in any combat MOS such as infantry or artillery. However, you will most likely be deployed at some point during your tenure. If you end up in a hostile area there is a chance that you may see some action. All Marines are trained as riflemen first, unlike other branches of the military. So, regardless of you chosen occupation, you will be trained to kill people as well.
Hope this helps!

Once you sign that contract, they own you!!!
You have little to no choice on where they send you.
However you are not yet out of HS, so you still have time.
With the grace of god, we will be through with this crap in Iraq and Afghanistan and you will not have to go into harms way.
Good luck to you either way.

you dont have a choice to go to war or not, an order is an order and you have to go if they tell you to go.. but the thing is female is not suppose to be anything combat related.. but right now in iraq, bunch of women are in harm's way anyways with the whole convoying from one camp to another.... i'm not trying to scare you though, i like the marines girls, they're cool to talk to.

My cousin was a female marine fighter pilot. It was really tough for her because of all the abuse she got just for being a woman. There are a lot of neanderthals in the military, so just be careful if you decide to do it. And no, you don't get to choose whether or not you fight.

You do have a choice. You can enlist to be sent to where your country needs you, or you can decide not to enlist and stay home.

The military is a VOLUNTARY service. TRUE PATRIOTS and decent human beings are more than welcome to join.

God bless our nation's armed forces and all who serve.

Criikey is wrong though. Army is infantry first (two months of infantry training during your first two months), then your specialty second. But you always have a rifle and you maintain your marksmanship every few months, and MILES ranges at least once a year.
