I've never heard that Atheists shouldn't celebrate Christmas. It's more of a commercial holiday than anything else. Christ is barely even a part of the holiday in most circles, anyway, although I believe He should be. And yes, if Bill Gates wanted to give me a gift, I'd take it, no matter what time of year it is. I think the time of year the gift is given is irrelevant, anyway.

seeing as how I don't know Bill Gates I would expect nothing from him. If I did would I expect a expensive present? No, why would I just because he is rich. I would prefer a meaningful present from anyone over an expensive one.

EDIT: According to what and how many Christians just because one person say it don't attribute it to Christians or Christianity. Anyone can celebrate anything they want. And it is a misconception to classify Bill gates as an atheist because he is not, he never said he did not believe in God, just that he does not attend Church regularly. His exact words in a TIME magazine article are "The specific elements of Christianity are not something I'm a huge believer in." This does not make one an Atheist. He says he does not have any evidence, and defines himself as Agnostic. BIG difference. To most Agnostics Atheists are just as foolish as Theists

Would a hypothetical Bill Gates give hypothetical Christians a hypothetical expensive Christmas gift?

Why would Bill Gates want to give me an expensive Christmas gift? I would probably request that he give it or the funds he would use to purchase it to the charity of my choice and would choose a Christian charity as the recipient. If he insisted on giving it to me, then I would accept it only with the understanding that I would sell it and donate the proceeds to said charity.

Even if I weren't a christian I would not accept a gift from that idiot.

The only gift I would want is a computer program that actually works and that has no bugs in it, which is not something he can ever give us.

Try again, flamebaiter.

Christmas is no longer a Christian holiday. It is the celebration of capitalism. It is even celebrated in Japan with a feast of buying.

I think that if I were on Bill and Melinda's gift list, it would mean I was especially needy. They do a lot of good with their money. I would accept it graciously, as a provision from God.

why just Christians?? we can accept a gift ; we deal with people daily who don't follow God's law ; judgment of their non belief and life is Gods ; Jesus accepted people as they are ; if you don't let the gift become your master as is with money etc ; you are free to accept a gift of any kind; it is easier for a camel to fit into the eye of a needle then a rich man to get into heaven ; choices; the need for more, greed etc

Well, yeah. Why not?

So, he's an atheist. Again, why shouldn't I accept a present from him. I don't care weather people of other religious beliefs celebrate christian holidays. I mean, I'm not going to stone anyone for eating an Easter egg at Easter.

I'd rather he actually come through on all those "Bill Gates is sharing his fortune!" chain e-mails that I forwarded when I first got the internet.
