My lips have always been dry and chapped since I was a baby, I am now an adult. My lips get dry skin and splits that bleed and I can't get rid of it, even if I can for a week or two it just comes back. I've tried almost every product and chapstick out there. What can I do, it's really starting to get to me. any help would be great, thank you.

it might be herpes...dont be scared it just means chronic cold sores

cold sores have many different manifestation and one it where your lips tingle and itch leading you to pick at them and leave sores that bleed and give you really chapped lips

just make sure you use sunscreen or a chapstick with a high SPF to keep them from burning, which can also lead to and outbreak of coldsores

also try neosporin and/or vaseline over your SPF chapstick to lock in moisture

see your doctor and he/she may be able to prescribe a herpes medication to keep cold sores from coming up but until then try the above treatments and abreva

good luck...i feel you pain!

I have always had the same problem!! My lips split apart and bleed or I can even literally peel the skin off of them and it hurts!! I use just the normal BLISTEX from the blue bottle. NOTHING else seems to work--not even other blistex brands. Also, I use salt on a small towell to exfoliate the dry/cracked skin. (you may need to wait until your sores have healed for a little while though because it will burn!) I find that in the winter there is almost nothing I can do except carry my blistex with me everywhere and re-apply it as often as needed--I'm not sure if this will help your problem for good though, these are just some solutions I use for a quick fix.

I have the same problem. The only product that I use is Bert's Bee's Chapstick. It is in a small yellow tube and runs me $3. I use it 3x a day and have not had chapped lips in forever. It really, really works. It takes 3-4 days of using it 3x a day for it to start working (at least for me).

Good luck. Get to kissin :o)

I don't really like Chapstick: That stuff feels waxy.

I know this will sound strange- but try coating your lips with olive oil. There's an oil I found in a local health store that's really good for dry skin- including lips- and olive oil is a major component of it.

Good luck!

One year, I went snowboarding and got caught in a blizzard. My lips were so chapped, they cracked all the way around and started bleeding. It was really disgusting.

Before I went to sleep, I would apply copious amounts of Vaseline to my lips and I would keep a little travel-size jug with me during the day.

If I was at work or walking around and couldn't bring the vaseline with m e, I would use burts bee's chap stick. It works really great.

What you need to do is when you brush you teeth, brush your lips gently (minus the toothpaste) with the wet brush a few times until they feel noticeably softer. Then, start using carmex. It's very helpful. If you still have problems after that, Avon has a chapstick called Chap-Aid which is medicated, and it's helpful.

There are two types of herpes simplex virus: HSV-1 and HSV-2. Both virus types can cause sores around the mouth (herpes labialis) and on the genitals (genital herpes). Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV).
Cold sores sometimes called fever blisters, are groups of small blisters on the lip and around the mouth. The skin around the blisters is often red, swollen, and sore. The blisters may break open, leak a clear fluid, and then scab over after a few days. They usually heal in several days to 2 weeks.
The herpes simplex virus usually enters the body through a break in the skin around or inside the mouth. It is usually spread when a person touches a cold sore or touches infected fluid—such as from sharing eating utensils or razors, kissing an infected person, or touching that person's saliva. A parent who has a cold sore often spreads the infection to his or her child in this way. Cold sores can also be spread to other areas of the body.

Hi! I have the same problem. I went to the dermatologist and they prescribed me Alcortin. It's is kind of expensive but well worth it. You put it on before bed for about a week and your lips will never feel better. Beware it tastes nasty but you can put Vaseline over the top as a barrier. Good luck

Try a herbalist shop for some natural remedies & ideas.

I have always found that a cheap pot of vaseline works well - make sure that you are hydrated, and perhaps if exposed to the sun / cold - try an sp factor chapstick for sunshine - it works equally well in the winter.

Try putting Vaseline on your lips overnight. Then chap stick every few hours during the day. Hope this helps!
