it makes people feel part of something, a community.
it gives them strength, so ifthey are having problems in life they can read over teachings or prayers.
maybe its false hope but if it makes them feel happy i guess its fine.

Your final comment says a lot about you.

Why do you think we are living on such a marvellous planet? If you have seen the photos of the earth taken from space do you really really think that all happened by chance? People are very gullible and
swallow whatever atheistic tit bits that are offered.

Everything in the world has its set place and then man comes along.

If you saw the TV programme on the Cain Toad which has its homeland in the tropical rain forrest. Because of dreadful problems with a native beetle devastating sugar cane plantations in Australia they imported these Cain Toads. Only they couldn't jump high enough and the beetles survived. So they are fanning out over the top half of Australia. They are poisonous so predators are few.

This is just an example of a creature taken out of its environment where it did no harm and entering a new one where it is a disaster, there are other similar examples, also in Australia.

All things are dependant on each other and specific in their needs, which to my mind means anyone believing in evolution is making an amazingly daft leap of faith.

Yes why do we have religion it is not important, all these people maintaining that their religion is the right one it is not true at all.

For years people have been misguided, Oh do not get me wrong there is a Creator, well let him tell these religions the truth.

False hopes you say, nothing else out there, people living their lives by the Bible and stuff? what a crock of shi*, sad isn't it that you only see other peoples mistakes.

Your words, hope you stand by them when it is time, end time.

Wow we are all getting the thumbs down

Religion was a way to explain the unexplained. It began as a naive misunderstanding of the way the world works.

Eventually it became a political ploy, where everyone actually believed it, even the people who made it up.

But I do not fully agree on all counts. Though Buddhism is not a religion, but a philosophy which focuses on the idea of a spiritual world, it certainly gives ACTUAL hope.

You wouldn't say "there is nothing else out there" if you've seen and experienced the things I have.

That's the problem with people. They're either too open-minded or too close-minded. There's never a goldy-locks mind.

Christianity is the only way to Heaven, You have a choice, I choose to believe in Jesus Christ because I know He lives within me. When I became a Born Again Christian and accepted Jesus into my Heart He washed all my sins away and made me clean. I have a personal relationship with the Master Jesus Christ. I know the Bible is real because I can feel the Holy Spirit within and He helps me and guides me each day to love my neighbour as thyself. There is nothing false about that. Thousands of missioniaries today will spend Christmas away from family and friends in a foreign land denying themselves just to tell others about Jesus. All those people are not wrong. I encourage you to give Jesus a chance. Get out your Bible and read the New Testament. It is the best selling book of all time for a reason. There is power there. Go to church this Sunday, listen to the Preacher, seek and ye shall find says the Lord. The Bible says to seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all things will be added unto you. Remember this Christmas is about the Celebration of Jesus. He died on that Cross to wash away our sins, He died for you to, Its in the Bible, the word is Truth. Jesus Christ is truth. He loves you very much, how many other people you know willing to die for you, it is my Prayer that your heart will be opened and you will see the light.

For many folks Religion is a very important part of their lives. When I was a child, I truly needed the feeling of some one is being out there that is watching over me. Cause both of my parents where alcoholics. Mom was a sex addict. And my father abused her and me quite a bit. Being traumated like that, I always knew as a child and as a youngster that there above was some one that would look out for me. I had a special place on my fathers farm. It was the loft of our hay barn. There I would go when my heart was troubled by lifes burden. I also was born a heart patient. Had first surgery when I was 9 years old. Had a life after deadth experience during surgery. It's still very vivid in my mind today. I know Religion is important . I just wished I had the same faith that I had back then that when I was a kid. Love you all. Best wishes for the Holiday season. May peace reign over all of you. Greetings from Utah. And it's no ****. And its not a crock! Its a life saving tool for many of us!

Don't you ever have to make choices in life? I expect you do and if so what do you use to help? I expect you are far too mature and nice just to choose the most selfish way.
If you do use a framework then I would argue that this framework is approaching a religion. It doesn't have to come gift wrapped but it you are consistent then it is there.
The hope comes believing that if everyone acted that way the world would be a better place
Bibles and stuff only help to point you in a particular direction. I find they help a lot but I expect you would find that rather strange.

People need hope mate.....its what keeps them going in times of the biggest lows in life.

i disagree that there is nothing out there, i have felt my gf's soul and mine connect when i first looked into her eyes(im not shi*ting, you its true). i dont believe in any religion the bible is, like you said, 'a crock of shi*' but dont think that what you sense is everything, because i know from experience that it isnt.

trust me when it happened it scared the living shi* out of me, and it took me a week to realise what it was, it was like a riddle.....theres some answers that maybe fit the riddle but not perfectly, and when you finally think of the right answer, you just know that it must be true cos it fits so perfectly.

Why does anyone believe in anything? Because it gives them pleasure in some way. For some it's just a social situation, for some it makes them feel secure, for some it's a quest for clarity, an attempt to answer their questions and erase their doubts or confusion.

And sometimes false hope is better than no hope at all.

Religion developed as a way of explaining strange natural occurrences to our developing minds. As we evolved, we seem to have used it as a form of governance, and social control.
An unseen but conscious force must have made a lot of sense to our fledgling intelligence, when we started travelling in small bands and saw things that terrified us.
This explains the ancient nature-worship religions, that saw the sun, moon and weather as sacred entities.
As we are now, religion has outlived its purpose and it's only a matter of time until it evolves out of our psyche.

We need to make sense of the fact that life can be painful. That it doesn't last forever, that we get ill, we get old and we die. Philosophy and Religion starts with that.

Sometimes they try and fool you with over-optimism like the opium of the people stuff - big daddy looks after you and will make sure you get a good place in the Heavens after you die.

Other times they will depress you with over-pessimistic stuff like life is pointless have sex, get smashed and piss all over it.

Personally I just think the point to take from all the nonsense is that we need to learn to love. To love ourselves and other people wisely, not blindly or in an immature, manipulative or regressive way. Oh yeah the Beatles said that didn't they!
