So I applied for a local police officer position... well I passed the initial oral interview, the medical screening, the agilty test and during the agility test we got fitted for uniforms. Well the last step was an interview with the Police Chief.. well it was about 10 minutes long, the Chief spoke about the benefits, rookie school, what he expects from us, and also 4-5 people out of about 14 won't make it. He said he would call me by Saturday and let me know if I get a job offer.. After the interview we were sent back across the street where we were "fitted" for uniforms again, and also guys were calling us new recruits..

However, if we don't officially have the job yet, why were we being fitted for uniforms? And making it all the way to the Chief's interview? Do I have a shot at this or no?

One of the things you have to be able to do as an officer is use that good ol' "gut feeling!"

I suppose that comes with age and experience...but MY gut feeling tells me you are doing well so far...quit worrying!

I would think that if you got that far, it is probably just a formality to be interviewed by the Chief. Maybe he has to rubber stamp all of the hires. But they can't call you a newhire until he gives his okay.

Most employers won't pay for all the testing and uniforms if you weren't pretty much guaranteed to get the job.

Usually the final interview just covers, as you said, the benefits and whatnot to see if you can comply with it. Typically it does mean you got the job with the drug screening and fitting, I wouldn't worry too much about it. But it wouldn't hurt to keep your eyes open for other career opportunities in the mean time. <3

Apply with another police dept if possible don't give up there. Let them call you don't sit and be idle.Ask around if you know any officers already in the dept . I figure you may have already taken these steps. Also it is a cut throat world out there .. Don't be negative and don't give up on what your mind is set on.. Good luck !! Wish i could help you more.

I would say you do. Although the sizes for uniforms may just have had to been in a certain date and they didnt make their minds up prior. But you dont sound like a dirt bag, so good luck!
