I really want to take a short trip, 1 or two weeks and help people. I've been looking around and found a few programs, but I was wondering if anyone has had any personal experience.

Most local charities offer community services like the Salvation Army, or Convoy of Hope. I think someone mentioned Habitat for Humanity. I worked with them twice in New Orleans and they give a good trip and aren't picky about length.
