As a christian, I'll throw out a self assessment.
From what I observe quite frequently, we are our own worst enemy! Just on this board alone, I am often embarrassed and ashamed at what I read from professing christians.
As long as we wear these physical bodies we will struggle sin and the temptation to defend ourselves, but Christ called us to something completely opposed to what feels natural and justified.
We are called to speak the truth in a spirit of gentleness and kindness.
I think many christians on this board use this forum as a place to get out all of their aggression and that is not honoring to Jesus Christ and it only hurts our reputation.
Just by nature of being a Christ follower we are automatically going to receive plenty of ridicule just like the Bible teaches us to expect. I think some of the offensive christians on this board don't spend enough time in prayer and Bible study before unleashing their opinions toward the unbelievers on this board.
So I think Christ Jesus is worthy of all praise and worship and I believe that His offer of salvation by grace to all who trust Him by faith is truth. However, I respect anyones view to reject Jesus Christ.
It's not my calling to condemn you. I am called to engage my culture as Christ engaged His.
Christians, you are not defending the faith or witnessing effectively by insulting or demeaning unbelievers. You may never meet any of these unbelievers in person and you seemingly don't have to answer for your behavior in the short term, but you will have to give an account of your behavior to our Lord someday. I urge you to use this medium wisely and in a way that honors the name of Christ.

SOME of them are hypocritical. SOME are sincere. SOME are mean spirited. SOME are kind. People are individuals; they are not representatives of groups. It is not possible to answer this question honestly in any other way. This is the opinion of ONE atheist.

I think that Christians in the true Biblical sense of the word are few and far between. I think a lot mean well, but have never been taught the depth to which the relationship with God was meant to go. There are many problems coming out of churches, but there are also many good things happening. Many are doing pretty good at following most of the rules, but far too few are going out and helping the poor and destitute like we were instructed to do.
I would put myself in that category. I can follow the rules and go to church and all that, but I am sorry to say I don't go out of my way to reach out and try to fill needs that I see very often.
There is a huge spectrum of what people who call themselves Christians look like. I sadly think that many of us will be surprised at the final judgement. Read Matthew 7:21 -- The Lord convicted me of that a few years ago . It's quite sobering.

I think all Christians are as different as all Jews, Muslims, atheists, agnostics, etc., etc. I don't think you can lump all people of any group together. Each person is unique.
In fact, some who call themselves Christians are not actually believers in Jesus. My father, for example, said he was a Christian because he was an American. He was not a believer.
A very good friend of mine says she is a Christian because she is not a Muslim or Jew. She is not a believer.
That said, I think some true Christians lay down their lives for others, some are mean-spirited and hypocritical, some are loving and forgiving, some are hopeful, some are depressed, some don't believe God (they believe in God but they don't believe it when He says He loves them unconditionally, for example), some are intelligent, some are cruel.
There are all kinds of Christians in the world. Most who call themselves Christians in America are Christians in name only. Most who call themselves Christians in China are true believers and the bravest, kindest, most loving people in the world. Persecution really weeds out the non-believers quickly.
So, that's what I think. What do you think?

I am a christian that just recently came to know the lord. I am over 30 years old and thought it was all a waste of time, and still hate to say but think alot of churches still are. I think it is all about finding the right church and group of people, and if you do you will come to know the right kind of christians and they are the best.

I don't think you can make any all encompasing stereotype of such a large group of people. Some are sincere and kind, some are mean spirited, some are hateful, some are loving, some are greedy, some are self rightous, some are the most humble people you will ever meet.

Most of the Christians I know are trying to be the best they can, but we are only human and make mistakes. Keeping that in mind, the only thing that bothers me about my fellow Christians is that some of them insist that their way is the only way, and if you don't accept that way of thinking, you are not considered a Christian. I find this offensive for I read the Bible daily and try to follow the teaching of Jesus - that's what it's all about.

The vast majority are nice, well meaning and sincere people. But they are utterly deceived and have no real clue about what and who Messiah Yeshua is or what is required of His followers.

I think most humans generally mean well. A few fanatics always spell trouble, you get that in any large group. But in the religious group, fanatics are deadly: they will cheerfully slit your throat if they think that is what their god wants. And who is to say what will be interpreted as a sign of god?

Simply put--- they are Human Beings-- NOT perfect in anyway-
Just because someone accepts Jesus in their life-- does not make them perfect...... but they are required to at least show the love of Christ to their fellow man-- everyone will fall once in awhile because as Jesus put it- the flesh is weak....
