Hebrews 12:24 - "And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel."

And how does the blood of Jesus speak differently than the blood of Abel?

1. The blood of sprinkling - Hebrews 12:24 to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.

If you read this in context (which as we know is always important when studying the Bible), you will see that the blood of sprinkling is a reference to the blood sprinkled by Moses in the Mosaic covenant. We know this because verse 18 is talking about Mt. Sinai and comparing it with Mt. Zion, which is the location of Jerusalem.

Exodus 24:8 And Moses took the blood, sprinkled it on the people, and said, “This is the blood of the covenant which the LORD has made with you according to all these words.”

Paul (or whomever the author of Hebrews is) is comparing the Mosaic / Sinai covenant with the New Covenant. He is pointing out that they were even made at two different mountains. Mt. Sinai was a scary place to be with thunderings and darkness. The Israelites were not allowed to even touch it when they made the Sinai covenant.

Exodus 19:16 Then it came to pass on the third day, in the morning, that there were thunderings and lightnings, and a thick cloud on the mountain; and the sound of the trumpet was very loud, so that all the people who were in the camp trembled. 17 And Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. 18 Now Mount Sinai was completely in smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire. Its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly.

On the other hand, the New Covenant was made on Mt Zion, in Jerusalem by Jesus at the Last Supper.

Mark 14:24 "And He [Jesus] said to them, “This is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many."

Mt. Zion is a glorious place, and described as the city of the Living God. So, the author is encouraging them because Mt. Zion was not a scary place and they, as children of God, had NOTHING to fear from God and needed to "strengthen the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees, and make straight paths for your feet" (Hebrews 12:12-13)

2. Jesus' blood speaks better things than Abel.

This is a reference to Genesis 4:10, where God said to Cain, "What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground." Because of the cries of Abel's blood, Cain was cursed.

Jesus' blood, on the other hand, also cries out. But while Abel's blood cried out for justice, Jesus' Blood cries out, saying "They are forgiven! I died for them! The price is paid!"

Thus, the Blood of Jesus speaks better things than that of Abel.

God bless you!

Read about the Day of Atonement in Leviticus 16. After the sacrifices, the High Priest entered the Holy of Holies and sprinkled the blood onto the mercy seat (which is a symbol for Jesus). As a result of the Day of Atonement, ALL of a person's sins were forgiven for the past year, as long as s/he was repentent.

Although Abel was righteous, his life was not (and could not be) given as a sacrifice. On the other hand, Jesus was a perfect sacrifice.

Hebrews is good start for reading about this.

The blood of the Lamb was our salvation . the old covenant end on His death. We now have a New covenant.

Two thing to remember the covenant was a marriage vow/oath between Israel and YHWH.

The only ones that broke the covenant was Israel.

YHWH is only concern for His children and Jesus came for the Lost tribes of Isreal. Yes that means you and me.

Judah is still under the Old covenant and as fall as I understand it, still keep it.

The New covenant is not renew till the new wedding for Israel and the Messiah is done. At the second coming.Because Jesus or Yoyushua has to be present at His wedding.

In Genesis 4, following the murder of Abel by his brother Cain, God says that Abel's blood is calling to him from the ground, apparently seeking revenge.

In Hebrew 12 Jesus blood also speaks, but unlike Abel's, it speaks of forgiveness and love. A better thing.

The "blood of Abel" speaks about the offering he presented to God for the temporary forgivness of sin. Hebrews clearly teaches that the blood of bulls and goats can not wash away the sins of man.

The blood of Jesus is the once and for all sacrifice that is worthy to purchase the forgiveness of all mankinds sin.

The time period "Mercy Seat" is the made from a couple of translation, from the Hebrew phrase Kaporet (Kapporeth) that's the "atonement piece," and in general derived from kaphar, which means that "duvet". The Mercy Seat is alleged to be 24-karat gold and the identical dimension because the Ark, and used to be most probably a literal overlaying piece, but in addition major in Yom Kippur atonement ritual -- the forgiveness of sin. In Christian believes, Jesus is the last sacrifice and atonement, better than that atonement represented by way of the Mercy Seat rituals since Jesus is everlasting atonement, at the same time the Mercy Seat used to be annual atonement. Thus, Jesus replaces the Mercy Seat in atonement of sins for Christians.

Hey sister:)
Praise the Lord that today He is our Mediator of this new convanant. The greek word here for " new" means fresh, youthful, with respect of age.
In this verse the blood of Christ is particularly prominent and crucial. Sister.. This is the Blood of the Eternal Covanant, with which the new and better covanant was enacted.

Through this blood, our Lord entered ONCE FOR ALL into the Holy of Holies and obtained an eternal redemption for us!!
Hallelujah!!

This blood cleanses ( Heb 9:22-24)

It Sanctifies us ( 13:12 and 10:29),

It Purifies our conscience to serve the Living God.(9:14)

It speaks soemthing better for us than the blood of Abel ( 12:24)

This Blood of Chrsit is a speaking blood, speaking something better than the blood of Abel. Abel's blood speaks to God for accusation and vengeance. ( Gen 4:10-15)

I'll put it up here sister. Always good to have a fresh account:)

"And He said, What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood is crying out to Me from the ground

And now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to received your brother's blood from your hand

When you till the ground it will no longer yield its strength to you. You will be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth.

And Cain said to Jehovah. My punishment is greater than i can bear.

Now You have driven me out this day from the face of the ground and from Your face I will be hidden and I will be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth and whoever finds me will kill me

And Jehovah said to him, Therefore whoever kills Cain, vengence will be taken on him sevenfold. And Jehovah put a mark on Cain so that anyone who found him would not strike him."

So Abel's blood spoke to God for Accusation and Vengence. Christ's blood speaks to God for Forgiveness, Justification, Reconciliation and Redemption.

Moreover sister.. this Precious Blood speaks to God on our behalf saying that by the Blood, the New Covanant , which is eternal has been ENACTED! and that in this New Covanant God must give Himself and all His blessings to the believers in Christ who received this covanant out of faith!

Hallelujah for the Blood of Our Lord. We are not perfect but we are under the Perfect blood of Jesus Christ our Lord!

Excellent Question
Ty for posting.

Your sister
sandy

EDIT
Just to briefly touch on the matter of sprinkling sister.
In typology the sprinkling of the propitiating blood in the Old Testament ushered the sprinkled people into the old covanent. ( Exodos 24:6-8)
Likewise sister.. the sprinkling of Christ's redeeming blood brings us the sprinkled believers INTO the blessing of the New Covanant.. into the full enjoyment of God. This is a striking mark that separates us, the sprinkled believers from the common people who are without God. It truly amazes me what God sees sister.. when He looks at us.
Praise the Lord for all His eternal provisions.
