What I mean to say, are there any laws that keep people from being able to buy any "Eco-friendly" products.

Limits? I'm really not following your question and line of thought. Unless you were chosen to do this debate not knowing anything about "going green".
Basically green is a life style choice of reducing ones carbon foot print and supporting your local economic community at the same time.
It is true that compact florescent bulbs contain mercury, but that is the consumers responsibility to recycle and take toxic materials to your local municipality collection. Render unto Cesar what is Cesar's.
Rules for green.
1. Locality-try and consum only products from a max distance of 500 miles.
2. Practicality- This includes spending more to save more, like thermo-gas-filled windows or compact florescent bulbs.
3. Think globally and act locally. This is doing your part, of understanding that we are not the only ones on this planet to include biodiversity not just humans.
4. Sustainability-Hire your local sustainable consultant to help you when you buy a home or remodel, etc.

First of all you will have to establish what "going Green" is! Is it having no impact on the planet what so ever or does it include living normally but recycling every now and then?

You could mention those that take going green to the extreme such as deep ecology and green anarchy (see http://www.wiserplanet.org/thoughts.html).

Then you might want to talk about "green washing", a term that refers to those who are only concerned with creating a green image and not putting their money where their mouth is. Petrol companies are often guilty of this!

Ultimately, you will discover that common sense becomes a restriction. For example, the craze for fluorescent light bulbs may be dampened by the realization that they contain toxic mercury - and kids exposed to the stuff when bulbs are broken suffer.

In addition, when folks realize Al Gore and his buddies got this craze going to make the partners in Gore's corporation wealthy, folks might become disillusioned at being duped.

When people finally grasp that Gore's push for corn-based ethanol is one of the most environmentally destructive alternative fuel agendas one can name, they might just feel bad about it. But, it will be too late. Most lack the intellectual curiosity to investigate and understand how they are being tricked.

"Going Green" may make sense but practical approaches are rare. The most powerful thing we can do is to stop the increase of the human population. If we don't do that, nothing else will matter. Human Population is a limiting factor that makes all else irrelevant. Humans consume and produce waste to survive. They destroy natural ecosystem - and cannot escape doing so - in order to live a modern lifestyle.
