A friend of ours (ours being my husband and I) owns an female APBT that is about to be having puppies very soon. He has to go out of town for about 5 days (The trip was unexpected, obviously he doesn't want to leave her, you know? If he had an option he would be staying with her) and he needs to find a place to board her where she will get the care she needs if she goes into labor while there. We were going to help him out and watch her while he was gone. We don't know anything about breeding/ whelping, but the dog knows us very well, she spends a lot of time at our house, so she would be more comfortable with us, and we could get her to the vet if needed. But, now we are going to be going out of town around the same time our friend is, so we can't watch her. My husband and I have never boarded our dogs before, and neither has our friend. Now that we are going out of town as well, we have to find somewhere to board our three APBTs. So anyway, I wanted to see if anyone could recommend...

.. a place around Palm Coast Florida. My husband and I, and our friend all live in Palm Coast right now, but we can take our pups to Daytona, St. Augustine, Holly Hill, Ormand, etc, if we need to. We were thinking about seeing if a vet's office would board them, or at least our friends dog since she is pregnant, but our friend is worried about the fact that vets close and everyone goes home at night. What would they do if she had her puppies, you know? Then I was thinking about maybe an emergency vet, but I don't know. I just wanted to see if anyone on here had any good ideas before I started making a bunch of phone calls. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

NOT a Black St. Bernard.. Thanks for the advice. You're right. I didn't even think about that. We can board our dogs at a regular boarding place, or kennel, whatever they are called! lol! But we are all worried about our friends dog. We all feel horrible about having to board her as it is, you know. I don't know anything about breeding, but I do know that it's best for the dog to be in a place that she is familiar with and comfortable in. We all just feel really bad about this. I think I'm going to call some vets and emergency vets and see what we can work out. Thanks again for the advice!

As far as a friend watching her, that's the first thing we tried. As I said, we were originally going to watch her, until we found out we had to go out of town as well. Now we have to board our dogs too. But obviously the main concern, for all of us, is our friends dog. No one we know is willing to help her out. Now that you mentioned the vet tech thing, there is a very sweet vet tech at our vets office that owns APBTs, one of which had puppies a while back. She loves the breed and has bred one of her dogs. I don't know if she would be willing to help though, and I honestly don't even remember her name to ask for her when I call. The money isn't an issue, we will pay whatever we have to to make sure she gets the care she needs. We are helping our friend, Josh (I'm sick of typing our friend! lol!) out with this because we are just as worried about his dog as he is! : ( I guess I'll call our regular vet and tell them what is going on. I'll ask them which vet tech owns APBTs and has bred

one of her APBTs. Then I'll see if she would be willing to help Josh and Vega (his APBT) out.

Okay, so our vet said that since no one is at the office over night it wouldn't be a very good idea to board her there, but they told us about this very nice lady that does pet sitting in our area, and I'm not sure if she's a breeder or what, but she's cared for 6 litters of puppies. So, we called her and told her the situation and she said she would love to watch Vega! Plus, our friend just found out he only has to be gone for 3 days, so we have everything worked out now! Thanks so much for all of the help! : )

If anything, you would want a vets office. A boarding kennel or ANYTHING where a lot of dogs come and go would be BAD!!!! Disease GALORE!!!!!!!!
Someone she knows with a good vet standing by would be better than any facility!
Boarding kennels do not have someone watching the dog 24/7 either. And I have never known one that would take on a pregnant dog.
Maybe a show handler. Some will board and some offer whelping as a service. It would cost a pretty penny though!!!!

Doesn't anyone have a friend that could take the pregnant dog? That is a totally sad situation for her. She should not have puppies in a strange place. The other dogs would be fine in a boarding kennel, but really, that is the last place you would want a dog to have puppies.

You MAY be able to find someone that works at a vet...like a Tech or someone that knows a lot about dogs that would be willing to "foster" the pregnant dog. At least they would have a vet contact and probably have some basic knowledge. Still, it will cost some. There are a lot of Vet TEchs around me that do "pet sitting" on the side. Someone like that just may enjoy something like this. Or calling a local kennel club. When I lived in CT, we had a network of people that were "whelper helpers" and could help people with whelping or take the dog until the puppies were 4-8 weeks if need be. The local "dog people" in that area may have something like that.
