There are no rules to prohibit the drinking of alcohol in the Koran at all.
indeed in sutra 47: Muhammad - when describing heaven it refers to a river of sweet wine.
47:15 A similitude of the Garden which those who keep their duty (to Allah) are promised: Therein are rivers of water unpolluted, and rivers of milk whereof the flavour changeth not, and rivers of wine delicious to the drinkers, and rivers of clear- run honey; therein for them is every kind of fruit, with pardon from their Lord. (Are those who enjoy all this) like those who are immortal in the Fire and are given boiling water to drink so that it teareth their bowels ?
The 5th Sutra: The Table Spread - Verses 90-93 prohibit wine, gambling, idol-stones, and the use of divination-arrows during pilgrimage. Before this verse was revealed at Medina, Muslims had consumed wine. But, according to Ibn Abbas, there was a skirmish at a party, and one of Muhammad’s Companions broke the nose of a man named Sa’d Ibn Abi Wagghas, who was new to Islam.
Then someone asked Muhammad about wine, and this verse was "revealed," and the Muslims poured out their wine into the streets.
The laws of islam written 30 years after the phrophets death, were extended to include a phoibition on booze, due to the numbers of worshipers getting too drunk to attend friday prayer. However, many modern muslims drink in private, it is only offensive to be seen to be drunk, so they do not drink to public excess.

Hi. Just wanted to tell you that you were right about the Salvation Army and alcohol. We have a better excuse, rather than it doesn't please God. That's not the reason we are teetotal (non-drinkers). The reason is that our founder General William Booth used to go to the poor areas of London to do some of his missionary work. He saw so many lifes and families destroyed by drunkeness, alcoholism and so on, that one of the first rules he made when he founded the Salvation Army was that intoxicating drink was a no-no. Same with porn, tobacco, and non-prescription drugs (although I go a step further and refuse to take these either). And gambling. There. Thought you may be interested to know that,. God bless!

I no of nothing in the Qur'an that would prohibit the consumption of non alcoholic beer or wine. But I am not a Muslim or cleric, but an atheist who likes to study.

I saw a couple of ignorant answers on here so I will respond.
Seventh-Day adventists and Mormons also are not suppose to drink alcohol (and they are christian, not muslim).
Samson (the Jewish strongman) was not allowed to drink alcohol either. I'm assuming the aforementioned christians look down on alcohol because it has bad associations (for example Noah's drunkenness), and they are taking the example from Samson (who was specifically chosen by god).

It's easier to make a fool of yourself when under the influence.
Many of the consequences f actions under the influence are irreversible. Killing someone through drunken driving.
It's not just the Muslims who are not allowed intoxicating drinks.
Seventh-Day adventists and Mormons also do not consume alcohol.
Hindus too refrain from drinking beer and wine.

Simply it is forbidden in the Holy Qur'an same like how it was forbidden in the Bible
"Wine is a mocker, strong drink is a raging, and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise. (Prov. 20:1.)"
"Look not thou upon the wine when it is red; when it giveth his color in the cup. . . . At the last it biteth like a serpent and stingeth like an adder. (Prov. 23:31, 32.)"

Sura Al-Baqarah 2.219
" They will question thee concerning wine, and arrow-shuffling. Say: ’In both is heinous sin; and uses for men, but the sin in them is more heinous than the usefulness.’ They will question thee concerning what they should expend. Say: ’The abundance.’ So God makes clear His signs to you; haply you will reflect."
It was of society at that time so it was initially forbidden to come to prayer drunk then it was forbidden completely.

Because of haraam (meaning: forbidden), islam is purely a religion for those who are depressed of life and want to either hide themselves because their social image is poor (usually women do this) or they want to commit suicide and kill others, because they have not got anything else to do in their life.
Mainly, because in the Asian Islamic countries there is barely nothing to do.
Thus, they like not to see anyone celebrate because they want everybody to die, they think that 72 virgins will be available (especially if one is a man).
Because they think life is depressing, they see their religion's heaven as more glorious than life itself.

Because it's intoxicating and interferes with your sense of judgement. We're not allowed to even drink small amounts of it.
