Simple - they are not 'fresh' in the true sense of the word.
Anything that says 'freshly made TODAY' is a con. TODAY theoretically starts at 1 minute past midnight - so your sandwich can be 12 hours old by the time you buy it at lunchtime!
By the time they are reducing the price of sandwiches at 5pm you could probably just click your fingers and it will walk out of the display by itself!
Limp lettuce and soggy bread are the least of your worries.

I agree. I like Marks and spencers best as their fillings are of a high quality, although the fillings are limited, but you have to be there at just the right time, otherwise the bread is dry. I think it is because they make them with bread that has been frozen, then defrosted and also they are not made on the premises but bought in and have travelled far before they arrive. You know yourself that if you make a sandwich at home they will go dry, even if refrigerated. Tesco are renowned for cheap prices- but the quality is rubbish. I make my own all the time now- cheaper and better.

I guess because they have been sitting in the fridge since early in the morning. It's best to make a sandwich that you are going to eat straight away because the bread will go soggy after a while especially if you have a salad filling. Best thing to do is make your own sandwich exactly to your tastes! I think boots do quite nice sandwiches though.

If all else fails...I agree with the guy who said get a subway...cos they are rather delicious! or a bakery is always a good alternative : )

I know what you mean. There are times when I am grocery shopping and I just want to grab a pre-made sandwich to eat on the ride home. I think the deli tries to get rid of the food that is on the verge of spoiling by hiding it in their pre-made sandwiches.

Why, because its all about being quick and convenient and about profit. They dont really care to much as long as it looks like a sandwich, smells like a sandwich and vaguely tastes like a sandwich then they can charge for a sandwich. But and hear it comes, bet they dont eat them sandwiches themselves otherwise they would change them.

because they cant...they churn out mass produced, pre-packed rubbish - which i would never eat!!
go to a local cafe if you can...it takes a bit longer to make - but you know your sandwich will be fresh...& probably very reasonably priced!
