Biblical apocalyptic literature predicts the coming of "the" Antichrist, the name given to the one who will be Christ’s chief enemy. This will be just one person.

It is not uncommon for fundamentalist writers or preachers to attach the label to a currently living person. By calling a second (or third or fourth) person "the" Antichrist, they show that they were wrong when they applied the title to the first person.

Every Pope since the time of Martin Luther has been labeled "the" Antichrist by at least one anti-Catholic "Christian," making each one incorrect (so far).

The adjective "anti-Christ" does not refer to the person prophesied in the Bible. It may be applied to an attitude or action judged to be fundamentally opposed to Christ and his message, for example: Hating others is anti-Christ.

Pope Benedict XVI just wrote a wonderful book entitled, "Jesus of Nazareth." http://www.ignatius.com/ViewProduct.aspx?SID=1&Product_ID=3060&AFID=42

From a book review: Through his brilliance as a theologian and his personal conviction as a believer, the Pope shares a rich, compelling, flesh-and-blood portrait of Jesus and invites us to encounter, face-to-face, the central figure of the Christian faith.

How can someone who writes such a book be accused of being either the Antichrist or anti-Christ?

With love in Christ.

No. How can the Bishop of Rome be associated with Satan? He stands against everything the Devil is for. The Pope is the direct successor of the Apostle Peter. He is the Vicar of Christ and the Holy See. There is only One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. The Holy Father is the leader of Christs Church.

Christian Scientists don't even believe in the devil in the personal sense...so there must be some mistake to the assumption that a Christian Scientist said that...! Christian Scientists don't see people as the anti-Christ EVER, but they see the BELIEF in evil as needing to be challenged through prayer that understands and seeks to prove the allness of God, good, in healing. A genuine Christian Scientist would strive to love the Pope as he/she is striving to love every other human being on this planet according to the two great commandments of Jesus (see Matthew 22:37-40). Also, the founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy wrote the following guidance, "A genuine Christian Scientist loves Protestant and Catholic, D.D. and M.D., — loves all who love God, good; and he loves his enemies." So from the Christian Scientists' point of view...no, the Pope is not the devil, but one of those Catholics who they are to love along with all others...although they would see him to be as subject as the rest of us to the gospel call to prove his Christianity/spirituality by the "fruits" of healing love (Matthew 7:20)...!

Hi,

The only people I heard say that in my life time was Ian Paisley who has seen at least 5 in his life, Northern Irish Protestants and some American fundies on TV.

To date there have been 266 popes and none have had the necessary criteria to be the Anti Christ. I doubt if they will get it right any time soon.

The pope is not the devil. He is a false profit though. The bible is true and the only way into heaven is through Jesus Christ.

She sounds like a protestant. Those two have always been at odds with each other.

But she may be right for all we know.
