We bought the wife a 04 WJ aka Grand Cherokee brand new we got inline 6 4.0L only regret was went 2wd not 4wd! We loved it and never had any problems out of it!! We added new member of the family so we upgraded and bought new 06 Durango with 4.7L and we get only 14 mpg out of!!! and in the Grand we were getting 17mpg around town and 19-20 on hwy trips with that 4.0L
No real use in the 4.7L unless your towing stuff but then with that shorter wheel base and your really needing to tow I go for Dodge 1500!. But if your just using this jeep for family and nothing else select the 4.0L inline 6 its bullet proof and best of all when you find it will be 3-4K less then the V8 Option

Don't get a V8 they're a waste of gas. They get terrible gas mileage. Get an older model that has the 4.0L straight 6 engine, not the new V6 piece of crap engine. The 4.0L straight 6 engines are good on gas for an SUV I average 22 city/26-28 highway. This being with a 96 jeep grand cherokee limited full time 4x4 system and the 4.0L straight 6 engine. Currently I'm pushing the 189,500 mile marker on the odomeder and it still runs great. Replaced the starter at 187,678 miles, and a new radiator at 186,984 miles.

I have had a few jeeps and I bought a 2003 grand cherokee laredo for my fiance, I tell you what. I wish I would've bought a 4-runner or anything else. At 20,000 miles the passenger window just fell out. At 38,000 the heater core failed and the 4-wheel drive stopped engauging. If I wouldve bought the extented warranty for this I would've been spending some money. So you can tell how I feel about jeeps.
