VolunteerMatch (http://www.volunteermatch.org), Idealist (http://www.idealist.org) and CraigsList (http://www.craigslist.com) all list volunteering opportunities with thousands of organizations. These are great places to look for volunteering opportunities. Also, contact your local volunteer center; you can find this via the Points of Light Foundation web site.

It's very hard to find volunteering opportunities for thanksgiving or chirstmas day, because that's when so many people also want to volunteer. So be persistent and be prepared to make lots and lots of inquiries.

How about a homeless shelter or helping to serve food to the homeless somewhere.

Find a shut-in who has no family close by... Go fix dinner for her....or, if she's mobile, invite her to your place....buy her a little box of powder or a new razor if a man.

Go to a hospital with a coupla little gifts, visit those too sick to leave...

Go to a nursing home or residential senior place, sing carols, visit with them..Ask how they're doing, tell them stories.

Lot's of things you can do......
