I can see where like on the normal cooking shows but supposedly on like Iron Chef and stuff they don't know what their meant to be doing so how come all the ingredients they need are always there???

They submit a list of ingredients beforehand.
The majority of each chefs suggestions are stocked along with basic staples.

Actually, the iron chefs improvise and use what they have available, as all chefs do. However, most of the time they don't verbally complain about not having something. There have been episodes where the competing chefs have shared ingredients.

Also, on Iron Chef, the chefs have a short list of potential "secret" ingredients. Of which, the bring what they need to cover their bases.

All those cooking shows have set time limits for t.v. Iron Chef contestants are told what to try to make, so everything MUST be there, a large variety of things, for them to make their final product in the time allowed for the show.
