I mean, have you ever seen a calorie? How do you know they exist? If you can't prove it, why are you trying to prevent it?
(sorry ya'll, I had been resisting all morning. didn't work. do like my friend brandon and put some SoCo in your diet soda. hehe. and yes, of course it was intended.)

I am an atheist, but I am already under my ideal weight so -- no, I don't drink diet soda... (I try to avoid toxic chemicals in my food anyway and aspartame breaks down to become formaldehyde and other nasty stuff)
That being said - a calorie is simply a way of measuring heat and is done with instruments called thermometers that have a visible indicator - so this is a bad example - It's like saying have I ever seen a millimeter.
You should try to ask what you really want to know - do atheists ever believe in things that they cannot see - like a feeling of respect or honor or love - or consiousness?
You just need to come up with a common intangible... Something that both believers and atheists are familiar with which is also non-physical. You don't seem to have enough science background to use things like basic forces, but maybe you could try - gravity waves - those haven't been detected so while they are thought to exist - there is no proof for them - yet - if they did not exist what is gravity? God is perhaps a similar idea for you something you think exists but which is not proven...

Because it's quite easy to prove calories exist.
Bomb calorimeters are designed to measure the energy released from food or chemicals.
Calories don't really "exist" of course, any more than you can hold a second in your hand.
They're a unit of measurement, and calorie content is measured by a full and pure burn of the item in a bomb calorimeter.
In summary, atheists (not I before E, another of those darned exceptions) do drink diet soda, but only when they're trying to lose weight or if they like the taste.

A calorie is a unit of measure for energy. It can be used to approximate the energy needed to increase the temperature of 1 gram of water by 1 °C. So, yes, I can prove a calorie exists. Do you think someone came up with a 'calorie' out of thin air? Sorry, but your question was pretty ignorant.

Yes, I do drink diet soda. They don't put in the sugar, but a sugar subsitute. I have seen sugar though, maybe not a calorie, but I have seen the results of a calorie, (science can explain that). I have yet to see anything that "god" did that couldn't be explained by science.

a calorie is the amount of energy it takes to raise 1 gram of water by 1 degree celsius. because it takes a fixed amount of energy to raise water by 1 degree celsuis, then it must exsist so you can prove it exists
therefore they do exist. also, everyone knows that if you burn more energy (or more calories) than you consume then you lose weight. more proof calories exist. so you can prove calories exist. so your question is stupid and ignorant.
the difference between calories and god is that there is no proof of god but there is proof of calories. seriously. did you pay attention in bio?

I've measured calories with a calorimeter back when I used to do lab work. Just because you can't SEE something doesn't mean that there is not some other way to detect it.
Your god, on the other hand, has never been detected by any means whatsoever.

You can feel a calorie of heat and you can measure the number of calories in food, so I can prove it exists as a unit of measurement. I can't see an inch, but I can see an inch of ribbon. You really didn't do so well in science class, did you?
