I've never been to Minnesota and just wondering if this time of year is safe to travel via car?

Its cold and its been snowing. Check the weather before you come so you don't get caught in a storm. The major highways are not bad so long as all the snow has been plowed off, but there might be lingering ice patches, so a little caution is advised.

This week (in MN) we have been getting a lot of snow. Make sure and check the current weather & forcast before you leave.
If you give the plows enough time to clear the snow, the roads are fine. They put down enough gravel & salt on the roads to keep them clear for a little while.

If I were going to Minnesota I would do it in the summer to enjoy all the lakes. You will be heading into some winter storms otherwise.

I would say no, the snow. But if you are a safe driver and are comfortable driving in it. Then Best of luck!

It's a better time now then in the middle of winter.

I'm not sure. . .all of the snow up there with the hills and winding roads may be risky.
