My 4 year old adopted son has recently had two incidences where he has said he is hungry, and then about 5 minutes later or less, he has 'blacked out' and almost fainted.

We are not letting him get too hungry and he eats good meals and snacks. It is real scary to see him just stagger and then fall to the floor and say he's so hungry.
We get him food right away and hes seemingly fine immediatley after eating.

My wife and I are now closely monitoring him and keeping boxes of cookies and crackers and snacks with us at all times so he can eat on demand. His Dr. has also carried out blood work which will be back with results within the week.

Our poor baby, its so worrying and I wondered if anyone else has experienced this or may have any advice about what this could be or anything we could do to ensure he never gets like this.

my oldest son used to get like that all the time and all his blood work came back fine. The doctor told us that even though he ate his food(snacks and meals) his body was metabolizing the food to quickly making him feel hungry all the time. We first noticed it when our son started school i think grade 1, and he would have fainting spells and say he felt dizzy and his tummy was growling for him to eat, and there were times where he would have eaten just 1hr prior to his little spells.
So it sounds like your poor little guy may be metabolizing food rather quickly, we started giving out son a nice big bowl of oatmeal with brown sugar for breakfast to keep him full longer as it seemed to be the only food that worked for breakfast anyway.
Chances are like my son your will have to see a dietician to help maintain a healthy diet to make sure he doesn't have more of these spells.
Good Luck!

Until my doctor told me what was happening for sure, I'd assume it was a blood sugar (diabetes) issue. From what I understand, you should be giving him high protein snacks (a cheese stick, a piece of deli meat, whatever) to keep his blood sugar at a more constant level. Cookies and crackers are okay but they don't last as long and cause more of a roller coaster effect on sugar levels. Good luck.

Could he be diabetic and have low blood sugar - give him an apple juice box and see if that helps better than cookies and crackers. My friend is a diabetic and keeps juice boxes with her everywhere she goes because those work the best.
