Because he can. He also may have realized that when he does that he gets attention.

Aww how cute, a maine coon cross! I noticed that my girl maine coon shes half maine coon and half something else, she loves to get her smell on everything that is mine. She wants to let the other cats know this is my humans things. When the other animals come along they know shes been there. Its kind of an animal possessive thing.Hope this helps!

Cats do what cats do. If you dont want the cat to lay on it put it away where it belongs. By the way if this is the first year with the cat beware of the christmas tree.

IDK why but cats don't seem to enjoy laying directly on the floor. My three cats do the same thing- my oldest has an obsession with plastic bags, and my youngest loves newspapers. My middle one would love it if Christmas were year round because he's constantly under the tree sleeping on the tree skirt when we have it up. Enjoy your cat, they can bring a lot of joy and entertainment.

My cat used to do this when I was studying...she would lie on my papers and books to get my attention. If I start painting on the floor she's down there with me as well. Of course I have to get her out of there as paint can be toxic.

Hehe that reminded me on my cat I had. Well, I think some cats are REALLY lazy and, well, they sleep on everything they can find XD my cat always used to shed the sand out of her litter box, like she was getting back to me for nothing
you can search for cats on wikipedia for more info about their behavior and stuff..wikipedia always answers my questions :]

because in his opinion he owns everything and is entitled to lay on it, and no one is going to argue with a main coon mix...that's a big kitty...
