To do it through windows you will need to have XP Pro. XP Home is only able to remote into a computer while XP Pro is able to have others remote into it (being the Server) and it can also remote into other computers(being the Client). To Setup your remote desktop. On the Computer that you want to remote into:

1. Go to your control panel.
a. Click on Your System Icon.
b. In the System Properties window you will see a tab (top- right ) it says Remote.
c. After Selecting the tab (Labeled Remote) Select allow others to Remote Desktop into this computer.
********************************
That's it

Now to actually remote into it using another Computer.

1. go to start menu....
2. go to programs....
3. go to accessories...
4. go to communications...
5. select Remote Desktop.

Now you will see a window that allows you to put in a computers name or IP Address. Place the IP Address to the computer that you are wanting to remote desktop into and click connect.

If the computer you are trying to connect to is behind a fire wall you may have to disable or configure them.

I had a few problems with the windows remote desktop software as far as customization. Check out http://www.uvnc.com/download/index.html to download Ultra Vnc which is more customizable. If you have a router and don't want to deal with a complex setup consider http://pcnow.webex.com. This will allow you to access your desktop from any where with any browser.

Also see http://www.freeantivirushelp.com for free antivirus and antispyware downloads.
