...then why can't infinitely cleverer beings such as 'gods' teach their faithful flock where and how to pray? Without splitting into factions, churches, etc?
Surely they could have made that one small point easy to understand. You wouldn't send pupils to the science block to learn about modern languages?
And you wouldn't have kids arguing about which block was which, and why they should fight each other for it?
So why are faithful adults so confused when they claim to have the Perfect Word of God?*
*No offence meant. I really want to know what religionists think about this, because people get killed over this stuff. Non-religious people too. 'Collateral damage'.

Most of the confusion you are revering to is a product of Satan. Satan is a great deciever. Remember he decieved Adam & Eve in the Garden of Eden. He's been doing it ever since. God does teach his faithful flock how to pray. The factions are the work of men decieved by Satan.

Prayer is a great way for churches to get donations. I mean you have a huge (for "richer" religions like Catholicism or Methodists, ostentatiously huge) facility exempt from property taxes where your flock can meet, network, and of course give monies to the church. The pastor takes his cut and doesn't have to work, just read a passage out of the Bible here and there every weekend and can spend the interim cleaning God's house or preaching or performing basic Q&A for any visitors or welcoming new su-- uhh people to the community.
If I were to choose a religion I might consider the Deist system, since it seems more plausible that a God might've stopped by, created our universe, then left it to sink into its own morass of stupidity and ignorance.
Religion often seems to more easily enable its followers to not think for themselves. Instead they shove a holy book in one's hands, tell you it's the word of God, and expect you to follow not only it but their interpretation of it, lest you be condemned to hell.

nacsez ... In my local newspaper the 2nd page lists many churches as "Places of Worship" The "Places of 'Love' " are listed in the classified section ! lol
BTW the God of the OT demands to be Worshiped . He even created Angels to do so . Lucifer was in Charge of Worshiping of God . The OT teaches blind obedience to , fear of , love of , and worship of God .
I guess the OT version of God was based on Egyptian Rulers of the time .

There is no one answer to that question like most religious questions due to the fact that everyone has their own belief system. but in my opinion 'gods' so to speak like other 'leaders' want you to choose for your self. but throw little 'threats' (for lack of a better term) out their and use unsolvable scenarios in to the mix to get to choose their way... you just need to use your head and decided what you feel is right for you, treat everyone with respect despite difference in opinion and just be a good person...

interesting attempt at inductive reasoning....
you assume that if there is a God that he wants to have anything to do with worship.
it would follow that since youre inductive reasoning is relatively sound, that the initial assumptions must be faulty. God does not care about worship.
try a similar line or reasoning with love... you might get somewhere unexpected ;)

It would be nice if it was that simple, but it can't be. Religion isn't black and white, it's different for everyone. Different people feel comfortable in different types of churches. I go to a small conservative church and am really happy there, but I realize it's not for everyone. I try not to judge anyone who practices religion different from me, and I really don't understand why people do.

I don't know.
It's one of the reasons I gave up religion.
Answers like "doug's" make absolutely no sense to me.
I guess "Satan" is more powerful than "god."
