Lets say for example you were right all along and when we all die , we just simply die and nothing else.....

But what if at the end you turn out to be wrong all along? Wouldnt it be smart to prepare and cover yourselves just in case? What do you have to lose, right?

You should ask them what's so great about not believing.

What if you and I are both wrong about any of the other 1000's of gods that man has worshiped over the years?

Granted there should be nothing inherently wrong with believing in a god, however, especially in America, there is a disturbing trend of believers to not develop their cognitive skills like objective thinking and equating "belief" with science. These two things are setting us back. The other extremely disturbing thing is that many believers think that it is their "God-given" duty to enforce their morality through civil law -- take a look at the recent Muslim cases for why this is a bad idea.

At the risk of being unpopular (hey, I was never popular anyway) I honestly don't have a problem with this and I truely think we do not know all there is to know in life. To believe that would be egotistical. That said, I do not believe in the Judeo-Christian God, but I also do not deny the existence of a "God" or "Creator". There's simply no way to know either way! :) However, I am just going to concentrate on living a good life and not let religion into the picture at all.

What a great idea , if only it held water . So you're playing it safe ? Yeah, maybe . You seem to think that the choice is believing in your god , or not believing at all . Have you ever considered that you may be worshipping the wrong god ?
The Christian god is outnumbered many times over by other gods . Only the worst kind of fool will say , " What I believe is true , what everybody believes is screwy ".
The billions of other guys can't all be wrong , and you right .

I dont understand why folks who dont know (all of us) keep arguing about what we dont know. What is God anyway ?
A higher force than us ? Its obvious that there is something, but what we dont know what. What happens when we die ?
We dont know either ! Folks glom onto the bible or the Koran,
etc. and just follow a non thinking path like sheep. We all know what is the difference between a good person and a not so good one and that should be our goal. Dont we have enough real things to worry about ?

there is NOTHING wrong with believing in god.

what IS WRONG is forcing that belief on other people
enacting laws based upon your belief
condemning others who dont hold that belief
claiming religion as a get out of jail free card for hate and bigotry
starting wars or killing people for religious supremacy

see, thats the problem. We dont care if you personally hold that belief, its when that belief effects your choices and actions, and get pushed upon everyone else, who dont believe that it becomes a problem. If you could hold the belief and not act where anyone else was effected, wed be ok with it, but we all know thats not possible.

you know, i usually don't take heed to pascal's wager, and today is no different. man, come up with an original idea. do they teach this rule in bible school now? it's like every other minute we get asked this exact same question. what if you're worshipping the wrong god, dude? and this is only infuriating the real god, what then? in fact, maybe the real god is pleased with people choosing not to worship any gods over false ones.

Personally I value honesty. Giving that up for a myth would be more than I care to do. Not that I could "Choose" to believe in gods, any more than I could choose to believe the earth is flat or that babies are brought by storks.

I suppose you go around rubbing lamps in the hope a genie will appear and grant you three wishes?

What is so good about BELIEVING anyway? If there's really a God (which there is not), would he not see an athiest's point for questioning truth, science and reason?

A man (or woman) goes through his life never hurting anyone, helping good causes etc etc, but because he doesn't BELIEVE then he should go to hell? WHAT A PILE OF SH*T!

The pose of believing, "Just in case" ISN'T belief, and we won't waste the time and energy acting out a charade based on superstitious need and fear. Don't you think your diety-concept would know the difference twixt real belief and "Goin' thru the motions" ? Evidently not., so, you have a fallible god. Rather oxymoronic, isn't it?

what makes me sad is that people waste their lives and die for stupid reasons BECAUSE they believe in a god.i know whats right and whats wrong because i think about how i would feel if i were put in other peoples positions.can you seriously say that you dont murder people because of the bible?or did you use your head and realize that its not fair to take the only life someone has?if you didnt have the bible would you be a killer?
