verses a Christian calling Christmas the day of Christs birth?

As a Christian, we should see both as lies. However, I think that we should be MORE offended by the lie around Christs birth because it is Christians that are perpetuating it. A lie that comes from someone who may not know better (to me) is less offensive than a lie from someone who claims to be enlightened. (Doesn't a lie from a person who is suppose to be credible on the subject make it more offensive?)

What's your thoughts?

Please do not tell me that it is Christs birthday because there is tons of historical evidence to discredit that.

Actually this is less of a question about Christmas and more of a question about which should offend Christians more. A lie told about Christ by an atheist or a lie told about Christ by a Christian.

Sorry, I when I said Pagan, I mean to say Pagan/Atheist. Both because neither claim to be followers of Christ.

gjstoryteller - very enlightening movie, but what has it got to do with the question?

2007-12-04 06:09:09 · update #4

gjstoryteller- ok, i get it now. Thanks for your insight! I really do want to know why Christians accept a lie from Christianity but not from Atheists/Pagans.

PaganPoetess- It was not intended to be offensive to you. When I say "enlightened" I am speaking of the fact that We STUDY it. Pagans do not profess to have Studied Christianity.

I am sure that pagans are enlightened in other area's but I am speaking of Christianity. Christians SHOULD know their religion better than any other religion knows Christianity. If we base our lives on it, we SHOULD be the "expert' on the topic.

Back to the MAIN Question.....Should a lie told about Christ be more offensive coming from a Christian or someone who does not claim to "know" Christ?

Absolutely! That is why it lights me up to hear Christians telling various combinations of these stupid lies:

1) The Seventh-day (Saturday) Sabbath was replaced by Sunday observance after the Resurrection.
3) The Law of Moses was done away with at the Cross.
2) The concepts of "clean" and "unclean" were done away with at the Cross.
4) When you die your spirit goes straight to Heaven, to Hell, or to any other place.
5) Once you're saved, you cannot be lost.
6) There will be a Secret Rapture followed by seven years of Tribulation in which the Left Behind have a second chance to make themselves right with God.
7) All roads lead to Christ and/or to Heaven.

Such lies actually come from the Father of Lies -- the devil and satan. The purpose of these is to deceive Christians to the point where they end up in the Lake of Fire themselves. Too bad so many Christians swallow these deceptions of satan: hook, line, and clinker.

God bless.

They are both lies. No difference. You are correct in saying that Christians perpetuate the lie concerning Christmas. I think it is more a matter of tradition and this has now become a reason for the season. It's important for everyone to separate the significance of Christmas from their religious views. I celebrate it to see family and be with them. It's a time of coming together. One can celebrate the life of Christ, but it isn't his date of birth or death. Christmas was originally a pagan holiday to celebrate the winter solstice.

Well, Christians are in the know that 12/25 is not the historical birth of Christ. We do take this opportunity to honor our Lord and Savior on this day, but he deserves our glory everyday. So...I don't necessarily perceive celebrating Christmas as a "lie," understanding, of course, that we recognize this is not His birthdate. Any lying that is done in Christ name, whether Christian or Atheist will have repercussions, but to lie as an "enlightened" one will reap harsher consequences because you know better. As a Christian, God doesn't need us to defend Him, so to be offended by lies or ignorance of others is unnecessary.

Anyone who says Christmas is Christ's birthday should be told (in love, please) that no one knows the date of His birth. Our modern Julian calendar wasn't even in use at that time. There's a 1-in-365 chance that Jesus was born on Dec. 25th, I suppose.

But none of that "birthday" stuff really matters anyway, because Christmas isn't a birthday celebration--it's a celebration of the coming to earth of the Christ, the Messiah, the Savior, and the King!

"A lie that comes from someone who may not know better (to me) is less offensive than a lie from someone who claims to be enlightened."

Wow....so as a Pagan, I am neither enlightened nor do I "know any better". Nice.....Glad I could be less offensive to/for you.

You can thank the Catholic church for naming December 25th as our Lord's birthday.

It doesn't really matter what day He was born and I don't think He's in Heaven, worrying that we're not celebrating on the right day. According to the Bible, one day is no more holy than the next anyway.

Only perspective. Remember, mythology is everybody's religion but mine, just like benign pain is pain other people have. ;)
