Ok there are many different explanations for why people love each other and the two main ones or most salient to me have somewhat evolutionary perspectives:
One is that love isn't real it is just a short term (2-3 years) infatuation that eventually goes away. This explanation also argues that love goes against Evolution because it limits your possiblity to mate with others and since human gestation last 9 months and weening takes a while would lower the possibility of producing a larger number of offspring.
Second says love came as a result of evolution in order to make sure a man and woman stay together long enough to produce offspring and raise them till they themselves can go keep the bloodlines going.
Which of these is true? Because they are at odds with each other? Or is that just like with religion people will use science to back up their own prejudices and personal beliefs about life? Or is there another better scientific argument for the existence or nonexistence of love.

Pair bonding occurs in many animals, not just humans or even primates. Love, in humans, is a result of our offspring being so helpless for so long. The males needed to protect the females, so a caring feeling built up. Those that protected their mates and children well passed on their genes with greater frequency. The second explanation you gave is closer to correct.

Not all cultures mate for life the way we do in the west.

The short answer is that evolution only favors what actually survives. You can't pre-judge what that would be, or what is best because that isn't the same in every situation. There are advantages to having the male stick around. There are advantages to spreading your DNA around. That is why you will find species that do both.

Love transcends Evolution and is one of the energy factors therein. Mating is a purely biological function and I can boff anyone I choose as even mating itself is a choice. In other words I can be protected from procreating. The institutionalization and moralization of partnering was created by humanity to alleviate confusion over who gets what and who belongs to/with whom. Religion never really chimed in on this except in vague metaphor and allegory. PEACE!

Why do things even want to reproduce in the first place? It just means they have a harder time trying to survive. Oh, and just so you know, you are simply speculating. Explaining doesn't equal evidence.
