This is something I just noticed the other day , but it has happened a few times before with different girls , when we are talking she will take her lipcolor gloss stick thing out of her purse and do her lips..What the hell is that all about? It doesen't bother me it just made me wonder why now , what triggered something in their brain to make them think to do it at that moment????

Have you thought about asking the next one who does it just why she picked that particular moment to do it?

You are the one observing this behavior. Journal your findings like a science experiment. Time of day. Weather. Temperature. Etc. Notice what you are talking about when this activity occurs.
What is the length of time you have been talking?
Have you ruled out the possiblity of boredom in the listener or simple bad manners???
Is it being done to cover nervousness or is it like others have said, an attempt to get the attention back on her, away from the subject at hand?
You say it does NOT bother you, then why the hell would you ask what the hell is this about. I just wondered. What makes men in public grab their crotches when they itch ???An overwhelming urge I suppose. And so it just may be with lip gloss. So good manners is overcoming the overwhelming urge until you can get somewhere private, I imagine.
Interesting question.

Because she doesn't give a damn about you or what you're saying. The only other thing it could possibly be is that she's not intelligent enough to follow your train of thought or her own, for that matter, and I don't think that's the case, do you?

While she's busy glossing her lips, you should take the opportunity to go find someone who is interested in something, anything other than her lips.

EDIT: You're confused, all right. I didn't say you were boring. All I said was this girl wasn't interested in you and that you should go find somebody who is. You assumed the rest.

And I'm not sitting around wondering why the abused women aren't with me. I'm judging them for choosing to play the abuse card while refusing to leave. That's all.

Usually because our lips are feeling chapped and we're standing there thinking,
" Oh gross. My lips look like an alligator's butt and he's going to notice. I'd better put something on my lips so I don't look all flaky and chapped." Personally, I'll do the same thing when a chick is standing there, too. It's only because I feel self-conscious if my lips are all dry and flaky feeling.

Probably for the same reason that they wet their lips with their tongue or play with their hair when talking. It is a subconscious grooming response.

As to the lips just being dry, my flippant comment would be that this is caused by the rapid and prolong movement of the lips generally associated with but not limited to a cell phone.

Sometimes when your talking your lips start to crack and that's when you need an emollient. Its probably just habit. Your lips sting and you put something on them. No thinking about it. I hate it when women put their lipstick on at the dinner table in a restraunt. Whats with that? I'm a woman and I have lucsious lips , but I try to do it discreetly, like in another room! I think some women like to put a show on for everyone when they do that.

Us women have this ability to multi-task. Just because we are putting on lipstick/lipgloss, doesn't mean we actually PUT THE THOUGHT into the action. She might have been doing it without even realizing it and trust me-it didn't mean she wasn't paying attention to you.

We also do it for other sneaky reasons that were already mentioned, such as to bring attention to our soft, luscious lips. (Also the same reason we flip our hair-bring attention to not only the long hair, which is usually seen as symbol of beauty, but also to our neck and shoulders.) Even if she was doing it to bring attention to her lips, doesn't mean she was necessarily wanting you to make a move on her, though.

Perhaps your lady friend likes to be fashionable & take any opportunity to check her make up to always look her best?
Unfortunately she may also being saying by her actions:
"applying lip gloss during your conversation" what your saying does not interest her at present -she wants to remind you she's pretty that's more interesting. Just a thought.

I think it is when they are preoccupied, not interested in a persons conversation, self conscious, rude, or just plain self centered (smiles) it could also be a reaction to feeling nervous or perhaps the person is the restless type. It is hard to say for sure of course why people men or women do a lot of what they do but this is my guess.....

Maybe it is something they do when they are nervous. Like they don't know what to do with their hands and it gives them something to do.. or maybe they are trying to draw attention to their lips. Personally I do not feel it is appropriate to apply any kind of make-up (well maybe with the exception of Chapstick) in front of someone else - unless we are in restaurant restroom or leaving the house or something. Next time she does it ask her if you can borrow some because your lips are chapped.

I use my lipgloss whenever my lips feel chapped or dry. It's 2nd nature, I never think about where I am or who I'm with when I whip out the lip gloss. LOL
