Many who are considered "saints" by the RC church were controversial. Many TRUE saints are not considered saints at all. There are too many to mention but one who was so controversial that his body was dug up, burned, bones ground to powder and the ashes and bones thrown into a river. Who? Wycliffe. He knew that the common man should have the bible available in common language and spent his life in pursuing this end. He was a teacher of truth who, in a dark age, shone the light of the gospel in many dark placces. Look him up.

Probably Saint Francis because of the way he lived a life of poverty on purpose. He wouldn't want anything material, chose to live like a beggar and would do strange things such as rolling around in the mud and with the pigs to prove how humble and unworthy he was...
