If you did a google search for polystyrene, uses - you would have gotten lots of information.
According to Wikipedia:
it "can be transparent or can be made to take on various colors. It is economical and is used for producing plastic model assembly kits, license plate frames, plastic cutlery, CD "jewel" cases, and many other objects where a fairly rigid, economical plastic is desired."

1.Sheet form PS used for packaging after Thermoforming process pressed between two hot plates and get what shape we need. eg: Egg / fruit packaging mostly transparent in colour
2. Pellet form PS are used in injection moulding process and can be moulded any shape we want. It's uses are in electronic industry. eg: TV cabinet, remote control, printers, DVD players, etc. To verify this take a remote control and open battery cover, behind it, may be you can find mark on it. material selection differs between manufacturers.

This material has a high residence against transportation of heat. it is about 0.4 j/ m^3h.
The material is also strong in resistance against pressure. Therefor it can be used under the constructions.

most common thing is packaging to fill out boxes..
as it's light and it can take dents.. yet still protect things.
it's used also for packing fish =)
