Hi
Just cooked 2 salmon fillets that was frozen on the date of purchase, and defrosted today on the kitchen counter. I broke it up into small pieces whilst frying in olive oil, because i ahve 2 small children and i wanted to make sure all the bones were out of it before serving.

I served it up, my elder daughter took one mouthful and she spat it out saying it was disgusting. I took a piece of mine and it tasted all right, so told her to stop being silly and eat up. My other daughter munched her way through hers. Then I took another mouthful and it was DISGUSTING! My younger daughter had polished hers off, my elder daughter had taken a couple of tentative mouthfuls. So i told them to stop eating it. i am guessing 1 fillet was OK, the other dodgy. No bad smell though, just tasted horrid.
Are we all going to go down with food poisoning tonight. If so, how long will it be until I know?

I am not sure if it was the oil, it doesn't explain why some tasted OK and some didn't. It tasted really gamey, like thick pate. That's the only way I can think of describing it.

You would know within a couple of hours of eating it....you will be very sick to your stomach but it usually runs its course in 12 hours....however, if your kids come down with it because they are young I would ask your doctor for advice if they are sick longer than 6 hours. Personally I don't think you will get sick...if the salmon was bad there would have been a very bad odour when it was raw.

I'm sorry you had this awful experience, although if you bought the fish fresh and it didn't have a "woffy" odors to it prior to cooking, I would gander to say that it may have been your olive oil that was off, not the fish.....If you only took a mouthful, I highly doubt that you will get ill from it, but unfortunately, only time will tell......food poisoning usually take anywhere from 4 to 18 hours to present it's symptoms.....I wish you the best......
