Vista sucks. None of my printers have worked with it. My music production software closes at random, it no longer recognizes my Creative Zen Vision M, and my thumb drive is not being recognized. Vista also uses too much memory. Having more 1 Gig or more of memory doesn't mean that it should all go to visual processing. And they make it difficult to dual boot the systems. I love my macbook but there are many programs that I use that are PC only. I wish I stuck with XP.

The iMac commercials are pro-Mac so make sure to keep that in mind when evaluating the message they are selling. That said, there is some truth to people favoring XP over Vista. Mac just exaggerates this in its favor.

I have both XP and Vista. Personally I prefer XP over Vista mainly because of performance issues and what appear to be wireless network issues (not sure if card, driver, or OS related). My Vista PCs are much newer and have superior hardware compared to my XP system yet my XP system performs as well, if not better, with many games and applications. I meant to start testing my newer PC hardware with an XP installation, but I didn't pick up a second hard disk yet. I don't want to wipe out my Vista installation until I'm comfortable with the XP install on the new system. Unfortunately the PCs with Vista did not come with recovery disk so I'd rather not completely lose the Vista OS incase some DirectX 10 game comes out that I really want.

Oh, the printer compatibility issue applies to more than just printers. It isn't a Microsoft problem directly but more a vendor problem. Hardware vendors simply haven't written drivers/software for their older devices to work with Vista.

I found Vista not a good system. I switched back to XP. My son runs a computer store and when I purchased a new computer, he added Vista. It was not compatible with a number of software, including Kodak Easyshare software, which I had numerous pictures in. Would not download properly. Also noted a bunch of error messages which I could not resolve. XP when resumed is a far better system. They need to get the kinks our before I would even think of using it again.

lol ok I have been using xp for years, My computer is an amd athlon 64 3000+ running at 1.8ghz, 768mb of ram, 40gb hd, 250gb hd. My 40gb hd was empty so i installed vista on it just to see what it was like(vista ultimate) IT RUNS FLAWLESSLY. I wasn't even going to bother trying it because all of these people saying it makes my computer slow, it's just as fast as xp or faster. I have dreamweaver running and aero on all the time and a lot of other programs running. The one thing I was worried about was my drivers. My asus n6600gt 128mb graphics card drivers for xp worked with vista and vista automatically downloaded my audio drivers that i needed. Now I am going about erasing xp off my machine. I highly recommend vista.

i think manily its because of vista being a pig for memory ect and that not all old software is fully compatable with it the main thing ive noticed is you need a top end pc to run it properly
