severe sore throat, pain when swallowing, enlarged lymph nodes, and fever. take a flash light and say "Ah" if you're throat is red with tiny white bumps then it is a definate case of strep and you need to go to the doctor. If it is just a sore throat I would say wait, most sore throats are caused by the changing temperatures in the seasons, a hot dry room, ((basically any room in the winter time when the heat is on)), and over straining the vocal cords but if you have a fever accompained with the sore throat go to the doctor, even if the white bumps are not yet present, you may just be lucky enough to catch strep early on.

Fever and a bright red throat that burns - usually much more painful than a common cold.
