It could mean the house of The Lord, but a Temple is basically a place where special religious ceremonies take place, for LDS a Temple is different from a chapel, you go to a chapel every sunday for weekly services but you just go to the temple for those special ceremonies.

The word "Temple" means to me a more or less huge building more or less with a high spire in its middle, somewhat reminding of the noble bio-attributes of a male person.

Otherwise: A holy enclosure or edifice consecrated and used for worship of some holy entity.

A sacred sancuary where God can enter. You are a temple if you haven't defiled it. There were/are temples where men could/can go in and talk with God. These were/are very sacred places. God will suddenly come into his temple, so says the scripture.
