Seriously, intersections are just an accident waiting to happen! Here is the trick people, when you are approaching an intersection, speed up, and roll the stop sign, because when you do a full stop, Mr. 10 minutes late, still thinks its HIS turn to go! But if you find yourself getting there at the same time as someone else, let them go first, ALWAYS look to see if they will let u go or not, even if you are right, it is not worth getting in a fight with some whacko that could shoot you for it. Any other advice?

Perhaps you are right. Instead of having a grid of E-W and N-S roads that crisscross the country, we should have one long spiral that starts at the coasts and winds down to, say, Kansas.

Too funny! You may have a chance at stand up, really! If you are giving that advice expect everyone else to follow your plan and expect to kill or be killed! No gun necessary!!!
So my advice is to stop at the line completely and take the extra few seconds to spot the wacko driver that may be a narcissistic driver that would kill you without a gun faster than you can react.
Letting a speeding 10 ton vehicle, make your day is a really bad happening! Bring my life to a gory end is not in the cards for me! If that doesn't work for you and you get through the sign without stopping at the red light or the;" stop at white line," the cameras will get you a free-you-win-a; stop sign ticket! Mr. Insurance man will increase your cost of insurance and the Red- light -awareness -Officer, will enforce the ticket violation on you and your license may be suspended too! Whatever happens in Vegas will not stay in Vegas and all suspensions and revoking will apply in all of the 50 states too!
So Advice do you really want good and life sustaning advice? Think about the next time someone with kids/babies/teens are in a car having fun and the driver makes a mistake and you have a chance of not killing them! Stop and expect that someone is violating the intersection and doesn't see it or they don't care if they kill you or not! Unfortunately, there are many who believe the rules don't apply to them, because they are too rich, too important, too busy, etc., etc. These people ignore stop signs and lights. They speed. They change lanes in or near an intersection, and so on. All of these actions are a Russian roulette on the road.

When approaching an unmarked intersection where no direction has a stop sign, you must yield to whoever is approaching from the street on your right.

When stopping at an intersection where all traffic must stop the rule is whoever gets there first goes first, BUT you still must yield to the vehicle to your right. This is problematic due to those who think they are above the rules. If no one witnessed the accident, or a witness didn't stop to help it becomes a "your word against his word" to the cops who will fall back on the "yield to the right" rule.

Ultimately, you have to be cautious, and ready to hit your brakes to avoid those fools. Even if you were in the right when an accident occurs, your car is still damaged. You are still going to be late or miss work altogether that day. And, you are likely going to pay many expenses out of pocket before the insurance company reimburses you.

They are. It's illegal to change lanes when going through an intersection. CVC 21658a Edit: Changing lanes in an intersection is always considered unsafe because California allows vehicles to turn right after coming to a full stop unless posted. If you change lanes to the right in an intersection from the number 1 lane to the number 2 lane (to the right) and an officer observes it, you will be cited.

hmmm, a city with no intersections? when u find 1, let me know because i'd have to see this firsthand. this is why u never assume the other is going to do the right thing. there's always that chance that this is the guy u wont expect to do the wrong thing, and that is what is gonna cost u dearly. btw, if u start a fight, u will go to jail for it wheather u were 'right' or 'wrong'...and the legal bills will be more than the cost of repairs.

I have seen Traffic circles implmented with a great deal of sucess. They are very effective in high congestion areas with 5 intersecting roads on occasion.
I have seen congestion go down and retail businesses thrive in high commercial zones Rather than outlawing intersecions lobby for a safer alternative.

watch a 4 way stop versus an intersection with traffic lights. You will rarely see traffic tied up at the 4 way stop and you will always see traffic backed up at the light. this is because at the 4 way a car is always moving while at the light traffic is always stopped one way even if there are no cars.

people are generally just really bad drivers. unless you dont let those people drive there will still be accidents. as for banning intersections i dont think taht would work so well, see as you could only go one direction.

I think all the streets should be parallel, and everyone should drive the same direction, that way there would never be any wrecks. Makes about the same amount of sense as your idea.

I HATE it when people have the right-of-way, then SIT there and wait for ME to go first. It screws up the whole system and makes EVERYONE a little later.
