I don't smoke pot and I'm not around it at all but the other day I went to visit my brother and his friends were smoking pot in his apartment. I made them go on the other side of the room and turn on the fan as I have a drug test to take in the next 72 hours so I need some help...how likely is it that I could fail the drug test from secondhand smoke?

By the way, this happened Saturday night and its now Tuesday and I don't have to take my test until Friday.

I understand where you are coming from.... i don't know if you got a buzz off of it or not but if you did then you need to start drinking LOTS and i mean LOTS of WATER to get it out of your system. don't drink any pop like Mt. Dew. that will make it stay in your system longer. but you need to drink lot of water til you get your drug test done. hope you pass it.

second-hand marijuana smoke — buzz producing, or not — can leave traces of the chemical tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in your urine for a day or so after breathing the smoke. Usually, the amount is not enough to make you test positive. Most drug tests have intentionally high standards to avoid false positive results due to incidental ingestion of second-hand smoke.

Hair testing (which is rarely done because the results are not as reliable as results from urine tests) can give information about someone's drug use over a longer time period, say a month or so, rather than just a few days (for most drugs), or a few weeks (with heavy marijuana smoking, for example).

By the way, in order for you to test positive for THC, the marijuana smoke would have to be so thick that it would irritate the eyes of smokers and passive smoke breathers alike. Avoiding smoke-filled cars, unventilated rooms, and other enclosed smoky spaces can help ensure that you can hang out while your friends toke and still be clean for bugle call in the morning.

The chemical that your body absorbs from Marijuana smoke (the one that companies test for) is absorbed in the lungs. Your body is not designed to have this chemical inside it and is therefore incapable of removing it from your body effectively. The chemical traces will remain in your blood until you die, however, as others have said there are other ways to detect it.

If you merely entered the room, it is doubtful that you absorbed enough to trip the test, however, if you were in the room for any length of time you will most likely fail the test, especially if they do bloodwork.

I was a drug test collector for 10 years. Contrary to popular belief, second hand smoke will not put THC in your system. The only way to get THC in your system is to put THC in your system.
