Do you want to be traditional? The first anniversary is paper so consider tickets to a concert or sporting event. Perhaps tickets to a destination for the two of you. Consider a weekend in Vegas--tickets for that are very cheap in January. Perhaps frame something. I'm a Carolina Hurricanes fan so I got my husband one of those big frames that has a picture taken during the game and a list of each game during the Stanley Cup series (where it was, date, final score, who scored the goals). Many colleges have frames like that too. They are less than $100.

I recommend 2 gifts. One for the anniversary and one for Christmas--unless you want him getting you one gift for the rest of your life. You start the way you want to continue. If you want both events celebrated, get two gifts.

If you don't want to be traditional, get him something he likes. Perhaps something the two of you can do together. Consider a couple's massage or if he fishes, go fishing with him one day (without any complaining). Don't have much money? Get him 5 or 6 little gifts for his hobby, like new golf balls and tees.

It's the beginning of ski season. You could plan a ski trip. Nice bed and breakfast followed by a day on the slopes.

My husband and I did a weekend getaway. We went down to Myrtle Beach and had a nice romantic dinner. His favorite dessert is creme brulee so we got one to go and ate it several hours later on the beach, drinking champagne.

You know the old story about putting a penny in a jar during your first year of marriage evry time you have sex, and taking one out every time after that? On your one-year anniversary, all he wants is a night to give him confidence that those pennies will come out of the jar as fast as they went in.

What ever you give him, I'm sure he'll love it all the same. He's your husband.
