Do you need 2 lines for a Fax machine?

I just bought a fax machine (HP) for my home and was wondering if it is necessary to have 2 phone lines/numbers. Please Help! JZ

No its not necessary but usually recommended. You will just have to switch on the machine from fax to phone when you want to receive a fax.

You do not need 2 phone lines, but if your fax machine recognizes distinctive ring, then you can subscribe to this service. Distinctive ring is usually 2 short rings instead of the standard long ring, plus it has its own separate phone number so you do not need people to call your main number to receive a fax.

Hi,
I do not know what your needs are for a fax machine. But if you want to send and as well as recieve fax, then there's a need for a fax machine. But if you just want to send fax but not recieve fax, there is a cheaper option other than getting a fax machine and you can use jutst one phone line. If you have any windows operating system you can send fax using your computer's dial up modem. If you do not have one get one installed. (Get one where you can just plug it into your motherboard PCI shot). If you have that great. The other thing is if you want to send a signed document/any outside document then you need to get a scanner. You can scan it in and send the fax.
This is what I have at home since I do not need to receive fax. But if you need to recive fax, please kindly disregard my comments.
